Cheap SAS Nas or SAS extension enclosure? |

Hi, I bought 8 SAS hard drives WD HC550 18TB, I need a cheap NAS or a Qnap extension enclosure for them (currently i have 5 nas Qnap TS-832x with 16gb ram).
I beleive I should buy a SAS extension card and a sas enclosure like TL-R1220Sep-RP, no? is it compatible with my nas? or is there anything less expensive?
I dont need extra functionalities, just be able to use RAID and a fast connection, I got everything under 10gb network.
Thanks for your support

Hi
love the reviews you do, they are great and good to see the market for different NAS systems; especially as I am a novice in this area.
I currently have a DS218Play (4gig) that I set up last year as a toe in the water experiment. I have more HD content added constantly and I have out-grown my current set up and therefore looking for a new purchase of the NAS enclosure to then add additional HDD.
I saw the new DS420+/DS920+ systems were released last year and fit my needs for HD and 4K. However, the question is how often are the systems refreshed. Is it a 2-year cycle or a single year refresh for the hardware? also for the expansion system, Dx517 seems to be an "old" system that hasn't been refreshed recently. do you see a new expansion enclosure coming any time soon?
thanks for any advice and keep up the great videos.

Hello there,
I hope everything is going well with you
I am writing this message to ask you for an advice. I need NAS for a small office [18 endpoints, and 1 Windows server].
We will use MSP360, to perform an image backup for the devices mentioned early, and store those images on a NAS.
Can you please recommend a NAS for me
I cannot wait for your reply
Thanks in advance

In process of putting together system I can edit on and be stable platform to build on, based on running across your site and the knowledge you have, I purchased Synology -DS720- 2 Seagate Ironwolf 8TB drives with the additional sinology 4 gb ram- have not added the SSD yet? Still researching Desktop??, Adobe pro or Davinci resolve ??, considering ViewSonic VP3881 do to one monitor for multi-tasking and accurate color with a good price, not a gamer but who knows maybe experiment at some point.
I have a 2000 sq ft house 3 car garage trying to cover approx. 2500 square ft , would like to use POE injector WT-GPOE-8-Awhich I own for some cameras eventually currently not using, I have cad 5 & 6 ran to the 3 rooms MB, Living, Den from office router, currently have Frontier Fios only getting 60 up and down paying for 75 thinking to upgrade min 100 probably more gigabit if they offer special, would like system to be able to take advantage. Frontier wanted to send me there router to test the lines as they don’t support outside components, Frontier recommended I also purchase a mesh to get full coverage for all devices not wired direct you know how it is adds up in a hurry 3 Alexa’s, Garage Door opener, Heat & Air thermostat, Harmony wireless hub, TV added bedroom with no cad 6 ran,2- laptops, mobil phones it turns into another 15 devices real quick. I also own TP-Link 24-_port gigabit switch TL-SG1024 I’m not using but could maybe use in plan
Was thinking while upgrading get a fast compatible router that will work with Fios and also be able to support the Nas with a fast connection if accessing form outside, I have also watched some of your links on editing direct from the sinology at blazing speeds not sure on the configuration for that, but this would be nice to have option, plan was to build desktop with SSD and backup within? Use the Nas to carry the load of all the back up files and space for the cameras. Now with this statement from Frontier get new router for speed and get mesh for additional Wi-Fi coverage and speed what would you recommend?
Wish you were in Dallas I would be happy to pay for the design and implementation of something that all works together with new technology and stability.
Sorry for the lengthy explanation trying to give you clear picture.
Would be happy to purchase through your links.

Network/Storage Upgrade? |

Hi,
Currently we have a Ds1618+ with 20TB working around the clock on our office. We have 4 workstations + 10 render nodes constantly accessing files over the network, some times even the same files at the same time (specially the render nodes). We have hit a big bottleneck where the NAS can't handle all of this in terms of Network, CPU and RAM.
We had it connected through a 10GBe connection but was quickly saturated and led to tons of connection losses, which meant job failures for the Nodes. That was also probably happening because there were some 10GBe systems at the same time as 1GBe. Once we swapped for a 5 Link aggregation (4 x 1GBe and 1 x 10GBe limited to 1GBe) there wasn't any more saturation problems, just an overall decrease of speed for everyone.
We need to invest in a new solution ASAP as this makes us waste precious time.
Since we've been on Synology for a while I would prefer to stay, but I'm open to other providers.
Right now we were thinking on a NAS with a PCI expansion Slot to put a 40GBe NIC, to connect to a 40GBe switch. Then all the Workstations and Render Nodes would connect to it through 10GBe connections.
Hope you can help us out
Regards

Hello,
I need some advice for purchasing a NAS system.
I access some information in the cloud on the street (DNS) and I usually access DLNA to movies (with subtitles) and photos on SmartTV, I do some backups.
What is the real advantage for the 2 bays?
What are the best/price HDD?
Thanks in advance.
Greetings,
Luís Ribeiro

Ts-453d? |

The website for Qnap shows that I can use the ts-453d with 8 cameras on a home surveillance system. Qnap says it needs 8gb ram to do so. But the 4gb specs say it will transfer 160 GB per sec, and the nas surveillance calculator shows I will need something like 48gb per sec. Can I do 8 cameras with 4gb model (I plan on upgrading to more than 8 at a later date)? Thanks you for any help, and thanks for the great videos you have already made. Helped me a ton on deciding which nas to go with.
