NAS options |

Hi. Thank you in advance. I've gone down the NAS rabbit hole and feel a bit lost. I'm looking to ditch my cloud service but can't figure out which NAS is best for me. I design custom homes and need somewhere to store/backup files as well as access them remotely. I'd also like to store my photos and videos and be able to access those on my mobile if possible. The max. amount of space I need is 4TB as I'm barely using 1 TB at the moment. Love your videos btw and appreciate your advice. I was going to go with Synology but so many say the speeds are slow accessing files remotely.

Hi i found a used HPE ProLiant MicroServer gen8 sold on facebook marketplace i was wondering if i could use it a a plex server. If i plan on testing it at the seller what should i look out for and checkt to see if it is in a good condition and if everything is in order.
The CPU is a Xeon E3-1265L V2 which is not the stock option and it has 16gb ram in it non-eec. Is it usually safe to buy these devices in the used market or should i buy brand new

Drobo 5N2 to Unifi NAS |

With StorCentric filing for Chapter 7, I’m looking to migrate data from my Drobo 5N2 to a UniFi NAS Pro and integrate a cloud storage solution for cold storage.
Do you have any recommendations for a smooth transition?
I’m considering a network-based transfer and would need bidirectional syncing between the NAS devices, as well as a plan for organizing and migrating data to cloud storage.
Here are the details:
Storage Capacity: I need to migrate around 10-14TB of data into a new setup with 77TB total capacity.
Network & Bandwidth: The network is multi-gig capable, with broadband capped at 1.2 Gbps download and 500 Mbps upload. Internal structured cabling is CAT6, which should support a fast transfer speed within my network.
Power Redundancy: Each device has a 950W redundant power supply. However, UPS backup for the entire site is limited to 15 minutes, so worried if there are any longer transfer windows.
Broadband Redundancy: The site is primarily serviced by Comcast Business, wi

Help selecting a NAS for Home Applications |

I just bought a new DELL XPS desktop PC using Windows 11 and MS 365. I want a NAS for the following uses:
1. Back up PC 1Tb hard drive using RDrive software. This is in addition to the 1 Tb backup that Microsoft provides with MS365. RDrive takes a bit by bit image of your drive which allows one to rebuild the machine and install all of the apps.
2. I eventually want to get 8 security cameras and would like to use the NAS as a DVR for the cameras
3. I want to get more storage for saving home video's of the kids, etc.
I am looking at the QNAP 462 and QNAP 464. I have two new WD RED PRO 4 Tb drives and two new Crucial MX500 1Tb SDD's in my old PC. I would like to use the WD 4Tb as RAID 1 NAS back up storage. I may or may not use the Crucial SDD's or buy say 10 Tb drives(?) for a RAID 1 NAS storage.
Is there any advantage of the QNAP 464 over the QNAP 462 for my application? I won't ever be using a Virtual machine or PLEX stuff. Should I look for a different NAS?

Replacing old QNAP and Drives |

Bought a QNAP TS-863U in 2017 for personal use that mainly stores video files and surveillance camera recordings. It has 8x8TB storage in RAID6. 3 drives have been replaced since purchase. I have multiple pcs in my house running Kodi with a shared database for tracking watched videos via SMB. I want to be proactive and replace the system and upsize the drives while I'm doing it. Min 8x14TB, ideally higher (looking for some future proofing). Looking at HDD holiday deals for best $/TB. Beginner level here, so not sure which QNAP bests fits my needs and if I should move to QuTS Hero or stay QTS. Suggestions on new QNAP NAS?

1st NAS selection |

Looking for 1st NAS, biased to Synology due to belief their software is better/simpler? than others. Use will be docs and movies initially trying more advanced capabilities as knowledge develops. The DS1511+ seems to be the option based upon your reviews and thoughts. My question is does the 1511 need hardware transcoding assistance or is it fine for a household with 1 large 4k tv?
Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Storage solution for Video Production Company |

Hi,
Hope all is well.
I'm struggling to find a service in the UK to provide support creating a storage solution for our business. We have a need of betwen 3 and 5 video editors to work off a server.
We currently have a 45 drives set up with 30 14tb drives.
It's not the fastest the way it's set up and looking to migrate to a new set up and use this as a back up for the new set up.
Any recommendations for a service provider to help build or set up a system for our small office?
Thanks,
Robbie

Backing up my NAS DS1522+ |

Hi,
I have a Synology DS1522+ with a 4TB USB drive plugged into it. The NAS backups up daily to that drive. That 4TB drive has now died and I want to add more drives to the my NAS. This means the 4TB is large enough either. I have 5x 3TB drives left over from Drobo. Is there a Synology NAS that I can plug into the 1522+ and use as a backup. I would also be happy to do it over the network.
Thanks for the help.
Best wishes
Michael
