Hi,
I've been wanting to upgrade our WD MyCloud where that firm rodgered all owners of their MyCloud devices and essentially turned them into a door stop, plus there was zero redundancy of which I didn't like anyway.
So, as money is beyond tight I pulled the trigger on a Yottamaster Y-Defender Series Model: DF4RU3 '2.5 3.5 inch SATA HDD SSD Enclosure 4 Bay RAID External Case House Multi Slot Port 4x18TB RGB Silent Fan HDD Case' from AliExpress during Black Friday. I made a massive mistake and completely hold my hands up to for whatever enlightened thinking late at night, (never made such a glaring mistake in my 50-years on this sphere) didn't check it had networking ability - I know, I know
So, whilst I can attempt to return this, whilst it's free return (I pay initial carrier return and if they accept the return they reimburse but never guaranteed I suppose)... I'm wishing to know if I can salvage this spend and that I can still roughly get to where I need to be for now, as follows;
- Windows 10 Desktop which can't be upgraded to Win 11 wiped and install Linux Mint Cinnamon
- Then Install CASA OS
- Connect the aforementioned Yottamaster DAS to #1 above
- Have the ability to get files/photo's/videos to be shared, saved, viewed to the DAS from a few users in my household via their own Windows PC/Smartphone, via it being connected to the Linux Mint Cinnamon Desktop of which has 150Mbps internet connection?
Any information that you can put forward, would be very much appreciated at this point indeed. If you require any further information, don't hesitate to ask and I shall do my best to detail further.
Regards,
Rob

I foolishly bought a DS224+ last year with 2 x 4TB drives and guess what... I've outgrown it :-(
Would the DS1522+ be a good upgrade?
I am a hobbyist photographer using Photoshop. Topaz Photo AI and Lightroom Classic on Windows 11 and use the NAS to store all of my images. My NAS is connected to my router and I mostly connect using wifi. The cable broadband can deliver up to 900Mbps. Thanks in advance

How to Restore Ð 264 and HEVC/Ð 265 Support for Emby on DSM 7.2.2 |

How to Restore H265/H264 Transcoding Support for Emby Server on Synology NAS DS1621+ (DSM 7.22). I know that with the DSM 7.22 update, media file transcoding/processing was moved to end devices, but this is unacceptable for me. I have several devices (Smart TVs, etc.) that do not natively support these formats, and I was satisfied when transcoding occurred on the Synology NAS side. Please help me.

Nas recommendation - reliable ecc nas |

I'm looking to buy my first NAS and would appreciate your expert advice. My primary goals are:
- Reliable data backup
- Plex media server data source
- Potential Docker and VM hosting
- Strong focus on data protection
I'm planning to start with two 12TB drives and potentially expand later.
I already have an N100 mini PC for Plex transcoding, so I'm mainly seeking a robust storage solution.
Which NAS operating systems is the most reliable ?(Quts hero, TrueNAS, Synology BTRFS).
Could you recommend a turnkey NAS with ECC memory around £1000 (budget includes 2x12TB drive)?
If budget is too small, i would also accept recommendations under £1500.
Thanks in advance for your help!

I am trying to figure out the container station to install a docker container for immich. I am missing something, but do you have plans to make a tutorial about container stations and how to use them to install Docker apps or whatever they are called?
Here a dockerhub image

and here immich website

Plex Server doesn't see shared subs folders /or media |

Same issue...
A quick thought / question:
Does Plex (or the Terramaster NAS) require media folders to have specific names or folder hierarchies?
I tried to create a shared folder called "Music" which is also the default Plex library name for music media files, but this had the same issue - the library is always empty even though it is pointing to the NAS folders that contain the music files.
It is not clear which NAS user account Plex Media Server uses, which might be a reason why the NAS shared folders are not being "read" by the Plex library. There seems to be a "hidden" user called "plex", which does not appear as a NAS user or a member of any group in the NAS GUI, but is shown as the owner of the "Plex" shared folder.
Information on how Plex works on a NAS seems to be very patchy....I've watched several YT videos on "how to set up Plex on a NAS" (including those for TerraMaster) an

Hello,
I bought my current NAS from you guys (SPAN.COM) back in late 2019. I’m looking to buy a new system but don’t like the fact that Synology have removed DS Video. I know i can use other options like Plex, Emby or Jellyfin but i don’t really like them and that’s why i have stuck with Synology for the last 12 years.
I also don’t like that accessing my media requires additional costs with Plex/Emby. I know i can put back DS Video after DSM 7.2.2 upgrade but how long will that last moving forward.
I just want an out of the box NAS system that provides me with the tool set to stream my media to all my friends and family without the need for 3rd party applications mentioned above.
Maybe QNAP would be the way to go but i would like to get your thoughts, help and guidance on the subject before i move forward and drop Synology.
Many thanks,
Chris
