F4-424 pro updated to tos 6 and plex lost permissions
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-26-2025, 07:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hey Guys, I 've tried googling and going everywhere but seems my problem is too specific, I've updated my as TOS from 5.1 (came from factory) to TOS 6 but I realized it wiped a lot of settings and seems to have removed permissions for some stuff, like now "Users" is called "homes" or thats how i had to setup the plex folders now for it to find my media.
But now I cant delete files from my plex library from plex I'm afraid the update may have screwed with the users plex created when originally installed via the TOS app store any way you can help me out ?
Btw i got my f4 424 pro after seeing yourr reviews, in hindsight I probably should have waited for the ugreen one but it only was available like 4-5 months after i got mine.

Replacement home NAS for music streaming, data storing.
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-25-2025, 09:35 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello Mr & Mrs NASCompares,

I have a 12 year old Buffalo Terrastion NAS with 4 x 2TB loud, clunky, spinny drives but two have failed and it was really slow to write to.

Thinking of a new, simple replacement NAS for:
- data storing from windows laptops connected to my home n/w
- streaming music (.wav) files to my hi-fi streamer pre-amp. The Buffalo NAS had the DNLA server option switched on.

I like the look of the LINCSTATION N2 or that very pretty green CWWK X86-P6 with 2 x 4TB SSD drvies inserted
but how hard are these to set up with the Unraid(?) stuff you talk about and can they be easily seen by Windows devices and my Hi-Fi that uses DNLA?

(I know I'm a bit dim these days but a few years ago I was in IT configuring Cisco n/w switches, PCs, etc so happy to go through a bit of a learning curve if it gets an easy and simple result)

Thanks for your help (free help? really? that's fantastic chaps) Smile

Gordon

  F4-212 vbs F4-424
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-25-2025, 07:35 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

First off really like ur channel, very informative. Looking for ur advice. I had a 4 bay ReadyNAS that is now obsolete. I want to share pictures and documents with the family but need a good backup. A 2 bay worries me since you don't have protection from a drive failure. looking at the F4-212 or the F4-424. Do I skip the 212 as it will be obsolete sooner than the 424?

Best regards,,

Mike Falcetti

  Mac permission vs Terramaster
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-25-2025, 01:35 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I am running a Terramaster F4-212 and my computer is a MacBook Air on sequoia 15.3.2

My issue is when I format a new disk (volume, pool, etc) I always run into the "the folder "X" can't be opened because you don't have permission to see it's content.

when I get the info of the folder it's telling me I have permission, the user that I'm using also has full permission on the terra master parameters.

what am I doing wrong ? I've also tried reinstalling everything and I get the same result

thank you

Wait for 425+ or go for 423+?
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-25-2025, 12:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi there,

I was just about to pull the trigger on a 423+ for a Plex / photo studio home server / NAS setup. But then they announced the 425+.

It doesn't feel like the 423+ has come down in price in anticipation nor is there any release date announced for the 425+ -- so I'm somewhat between a rock and a hard place.

How would you advise someone looking to buy imminently for a great Plex solution?

Thanks!

James.

[Help] Setting up your NAS [Resolved]
Posted by: narchymaster - 03-24-2025, 07:56 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

Hi

I need your help with the hardware for my future NAS. I wanted to go with a 14th gen i5, but I don't know what to get for the motherboard, CPU, RAM, and power supply.

For the case, I chose the Fractal Node 804, my use case will be Plex so that my family/friends can access movies/TV shows remotely, with or without transcoding. The maximum number of simultaneous connections will be five.

And in the future, I'd like to use Docker to host a private server for a video game like Palword, instead of subscribing to a hosting provider.

Then, in the more distant future, it will be useful for using surveillance cameras.

Do you recommend TrueNas or Unraid?

If one or two HDDs fail, I'd be better off using TrueNas, according to what I've read. What do you think?

thank You

  Deleting storage pool
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-24-2025, 05:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I am adding smaller drives to a backup NAS and I need to delete the currant storage pool which has 2 12TB drives so I can rebuild a storage pool with 4 drives including 2 4TBs. I know I can't expand with smaller drives. I can not find a way in synology DSM 7.0 to delete the storage pool and start over. do I have to reset the system? Thanks!
