Multi Media NAS - Selection? |

Hi, great YouTube videos!!
Which NAS? - Been looking at the Synology DS218, basically it will be mainly used for music files and pictures, maybe the odd 4K video clips, to my AVR / TV. i.e. multi media.
I like the feature of copying straight from a USB for ease.
I want something that will not grind to a hault because of low RAM .
Also it will be connected to a SkyQ Router not sure if that could be problematic?
Thanks in advance Rach.

QNAP TS431P SSD or HDD? |

I have a LOT of genealogy photos and videos (~10TB) on my desktop plus my wife and kid's laptops.
I got a free TS-431P from work and bought 4*6TB WD Reds to put in it, but I now see how it MIGHT be faster with an SSD in the first slot.
I mainly want to use this NAS for backup of all of the workstations. My understanding is that I am maxed out at 16TB by the CPU???
I have an external 16TB USB drive for backup of the NAS. I was thinking that I should only use 3 of the HDD and an SSD for speedup?
What is your recommendation?
I am also having an issue figuring out how to schedule the sync with the external USB, could you point me to one of your videos? I watched the 8 part one, but maybe I missed it? THANKS for all of your hard work.

NAS for home business and media hub? |

I need some professional advice which I would rather pay for.
Our back story is…
Having become frustrated with the data mess of 3 PCs, 3 laptops, and numerous devices I purchased a Synology DS420+ having watched many of your (and other) videos. We have a great Ubiquity home network to keep us connected wired and wirelessly, but with us now mostly home working and homeschooling and using more in-house media for entertainment we needed a central data solution.
Being dyslexic I tend to look to audio/visual instruction. With so much information and opinions on the likes of youtube I have become completely overwhelmed with snippets of advice over the past 4 days of what I want to achieve, but still no definitive answer to how to do it.
Do you offer a paid advice service or a remote set-up option? And what is your availability as I keen to get this up and running asap.

NAS for 4k movies? |

Hello, I am emailing form Canada where my internet speed is 940 Mbps download and 940 Mbps upload on fibre optics. I would like to store all of my 4k movies, bluray movies, hundreds of music Flac files and thousands of family photos that can be accessed by 8 family member that are around the world, majority in Canada and USA. Just wondering if this is possible because sometime there can be all 8 members of the family watching 4k movies at the same time.
Thank You

Hi there
I have read a lot that zfs is the best ro keep your data safe and healthy. Ive already invested on 4 x 4tb ironwolf pro hdd and have budget around £500 to spend on Nas . What nas should I get to support zfs, be upgradeable to add ddr4 rams later if required.
The usage is home and small business,
- lots of small photos and video files,
- media server with wifi and hdmi tv connections,
- mobiles back ups and sync
- IP cctvs act as nvr
- business files directory read and write daily use
- clients restricted access to related documents
Thank you
Regards
Abby

Guidance on purchasing first NAS? |

Hi
Been looking at purchasing my first NAS. I will be using at home, I need multi users...
I currently leaning towards a Synology DS 920+
Uses will be:
Photos/Videos (want to transition from Google Photos)
Computer and laptop back ups
Multi media for films (not overly important) - mainly upload my old DVD collection.
Happy to have a tinker around with VM etc but not much experience of this.
My key question is for photo backups, if I was to use for instance Synology Photos, could I set up each user to have access to their own folder of photos only and not to able see all the photos?
So for instance if I had 4 users using the Nas for storage and they each downloaded Synology Photos onto their mobile devices. Can I set it up so that when they open the Synology Photos app on their phone it only shows their own photos and not all fours users.
If you could also provide some guidance as whether the ds920+ would fit my needs that would be brilliant
Thanks
