Plex on NAS |

Hi, I have 7TB of Plex data. I am trying to figure out the best way to host my Plex server. I have an asustor 5304T NAS with 8GB RAM with the Plex app running on it. Works great. Home streaming and all seems okay. I turned off transcoding and local network direct play of my media to my devices is great. I heard people sometimes run Plex on a different device like a PC and just have that device connected to the NAS as a storage device which it loads the media from and serves it from the PC to the clients. Doing this keeps resources separate. My reason for considering this is I have a gaming PC I literally never use but it has a 2080 Ti and a Ryzen 7 or something like that in it. Good specs for a few years ago. Figured running my Plex server on that would be a breeze even remotely with transcoding. What do you recommend? Thanks so much for the time!!
Also, do you prefer Asustor or Synology in the NAS world?

TVS-H1288X vs TVS-h874-i0 |

I'm getting ready to upgrade my NAS and am stuck bwtween the 874 and 1288. Primary use case will be a large media library with a desire to have good transcoding performance (assume 8 bays of raidz2 for the main volume pool). Additionally, will be running a number of VM's.
The edge I give the 1288 is the flexibilty of additional bays. I can add a SSD pool for VM's and containers (plex + plex db) to allow better performance for those apps than spinning rust would permit while still having M2 slots available for future l2Arc. 128GZB RAM capability is a bonus as well.
The edge I give the 874 is pure CPU power at the cost of the flexibility of the additional drive slots. I could use the M2 slots as a pool for VM/containers, but if I ever want to add L2 Arc the path forward is an expansion chassis or a PCI card with M2 slots.
I'm leaning towards the 874-but am curious what QNAP's refresh cycle on the 1288 may be? I could hold out a year or maybe two for something with big CPU+bays

UGOS with BTRFS question |

Quick question about how Ugreen's UGOS implements BTRFS and RAID. Does UGOS use BTRFS to provide both the file system and the raid?
Synology uses mdadm under the covers for RAID and BTRFS provides the file system, scrubbing, snapshots, etc. I can't seem to find how this is implemented in UGOS.
I've seen multiple comments regarding not using BTRFS RAID, and my Synology has been very stable for years. I'm hoping Ugreen does this similarly to Synology with a stable RAID under a BTRFS file system.

Very dissapointed as I got an email from UGreen support that they are not shipping to Hawaii or Alaska, even if they stated shipping to US. It was clearly not posted in their KS campaign...

I would like to know what is the best NAS for me. I have seen your videos and read articles and I’m currently thinking of buying Synology 923+ or UGREEN4800 plus. (I’m thinking about 4bay and but 2 hard drive now and as my data grows I can add more)
What I need is:
1. system to access files from my phone.
2. Watching movies and series (7TB is all movies and series)
3. Photo cloud storage private for all users (starting with 4 users and may expand) with ability to do all features of Apple photos and google photos.
4. Privacy since all documents are private.
5. Prefer to have a backup up (read about RAID but didn’t understand it yet)

Is there such a thing as an adapter that I can plug into an 1821+ USB port to provide 10GBe (RJ45) connectivity?
FWIW: I am currently using a Synology PCIe 10GBe NIC and the port(s) above would be in addition to this NIC.

SFF-8088 bottleneck for QNAP TL-D1600S ? |

I'm looking to add a large media server to my home network.
A dedicated 16-bay NAS, like the QNAP TVS-h1688X would have been perfect at 2,000 USD, but as its currently selling for 3,000 USD that's a hard no for me.
To save costs, I'm thinking of a TrueNAS Scale system, based on a QNAP TL-D1600S and a Minisforum MS-01 workstation.
I have no doubt that with 96GB of DDR5, the MS-01 would do great managing 2/3 ZFS vdevs. My main concern is the connection between the PC and the JBOD. I'm not familiar with SAS and SFF-8088 cables.
1) What's more important for a media server - latency or throughput?
2) What would be the bottleneck of this system - SFF-8088 cables, OS overhead, or maybe something completely different?
Thanks in advance,
Arjestin

How to enable PHP support on Web Station |

Hello,
I just got a DS1522+ running DSM 7.2.1.
After installing Web Station I tried to run a "Hello World!" test web page and it did work as expected.
But when I added to the index.html file the following: "<?PHP phpinfo(); ?>" to validate the PHP support, I didn't see any PHP related details coming out. PHP 7.x and 8.x seem to be installed and running.
When I open the index.html test page with a Chrome developer tool I see my PHP code got changed and commented out:
<!-- ? php phpinfo(); ?--!>
Did I miss any step for having PHP properly running and supported?
Thanks in advance
Fabio

Hi My name is Amin, I am wondering if you can advise me on a few thing on the 12 bay Asustor flash nas Features I have been going through some videos of yours which have quite formative and very helpful thank you for those videos.
I have been going through the videos and I am trying to figure out how do I repair a degraded/ faulty SSD. As for Synology you required to repair a faulty/degraded drive manually by actioning it. I am wandering would this be the same for the Asustor flash Nas. can you please make a video on this for me we'll be much appreciate it or provide me a with a step by step instructions that would be great also thank you
Secondly I wondering if I purchased 2 Asus flash store nas The first one would be used as a primary use and the second one as the backup. I am wondering if my primary Nas get damaged therefore I would be required to replace it for a third one can you explain how i can restore the file from the backup nas and use my new nas as my primary nas as
