i'm looking into getting a nas for a media/plex server but also file backup from family computers and devices. maybe even some vm's to play around with.
i was thinking of a 4 bay since i'd like to run probably raid 5 so i have some redundancy. i've looked into the ds423+ and 923+ and some qnap options and im honestly stuck at which one is my best option.

Please kindly advise a UPS for my 4 bay Synology DS920+
I need it only to protect my NAS from data loss in case of power failure.
Nothing else will be connected to the UPS.
I'd like it to be able to shut down automatically when I am not home, but keep running in case it is a short few minutes power outage.
Which one is a least expensive option to do the job?

Hey I am completely new to home server. I have done some research and have settled on wanting to build a NAS/Plex server. I would like to also host some containers as well on the server. Can I get some tips and help on the parts I would need.

i want to upgrade the RAM of our DS1621+ unofficially.
Currently we are running original Synology RAM 1 x 16GB + 1 x 4 GB.
As described in your article our RAM is often at 80% .
So, our question: Can we / have you tested /do you think it works:
1) Keep the original 16GB Synology RAM
2) Replace the original 4GB Synology RAM with 32 GB Kingston or vcloud or PHS or maxano RAM
That would provide 16GB+32GB=48GB RAM

Potentially as more VMs / containers add, the 16GB Synology RAM woud be replaced later as well if it works.
Which brand would be the best for overraming in conjunction with original RAM?

Also having heard that storage prices will drop again this year, we would like to enhance the 2 M.2 Synology SNV3400-400G by more. Would you think Samsung 2TB - 4TB 990 PRO Heatsink NVMe™ M.2 SSD will work?

DS1815 8Drives of 6TB SHR1 - 2 Drives - 1 - Crashed 1 - Faulty

What are my options in order to fix this, as i have around 40TB of data on this synology. Over the weekend my drives started to fail. I have since inserted a new drive into the faulty bay and its initialised, but ideally need the data to be repaired on this new drive. What are my options.
1 drive crashed and died and one is faulty just need to know what my options are.

After spending quite a bit of time researching, I would like a modern NAS for video data storage and not editing. Why should I do this ?
- There are 5 to 7 of us in the company, and I think that if everyone works directly on the NAS, it's no good.
- I think having a Thunderbolt NAS is good, but I think the whole network also needs to be adapted (computer input, cables, switch) which can be expensive.
- We have 970 Pro disks on our PC, and I prefer to work live and use the NAS as storage.

Do you think my thinking is logical?
What NAS would you recommend for this budget? I'm thinking of 6 bays with IronWolf disks.

Concerning the cache, I can't find the capacity I'd need for a 980 Pro disk, which is hard to find. The objective is to accelerate video files transfert.

I've been researching for a while and right now I am trying to find a good NAS for me. I would have ordered the UGREEN on kickstarter in a heartbeat but at the time I did not have enough more to acquire it. I'm looking more into it and with so many options and not a lot of time, my head is spinning more and more. I just want something that's not too difficult to use and to store my artworks over the decade+ I've been doing it, along side easily remote accessing references from photos to videos.

we would like to ask for recomendations for 2 switches one that will be used for distributing a connection to the internet for our dental practice with 2 computers on the front desk, 5 on the cabinets, 1 on the x ray, 4 on the orthodontics room, 1 for the office, 2 for the sterilization room, 1 for the break room
we will also be having 2 voip phones on the front desk, 1 in the office and 1 on the sterilization room
we also need a printer that is connected to all the computers on the front desk
we would like to maybe add another printer to the office and a second computer to the sterilization room
we will also be having a secont network for internal use of the x ray with 1 pc on the x ray, the 5 computers on the cabinets, the 4 on the ortho room, in the office and 1 in the sterilization room
as before we would like to add eventualy a second pc to the sterilization room and maybe add one to the break room

our softwere is cloud based
any recomendations will be great

I am struggling with a bare metal recover of a Surface Pro 9.
The Boot USB open on a Synology screen but I cannot press next because the touch screen and mice pad do not work.
I also get a message saying that the network driver is missing.
Is this a frequent issue and if so do you know the way around?
