Process for re-using HDD |

Hello everyone
New member here with a question about re-use of HDD
Situation is I have upgraded to a 4bay 918+ from a 2 bay 214 Play
For a number of reasons the migration route ended up being an old school copy -the 214 has not been used for anything fancy so I just needed to move the data across and I duplicated the folder structure albeit under a new admin/user account etc
So I now have a 918+ with 2 new 4Tb drives in SHR and the same data as the 214 Play which still has the old 4Tb drives also in SHR
The drives in the 214 are only about a year old and SMART testing OK so I want to add them to the 918+ as a 3rd and 4th drive
My question is how can I re-use them. Can I just remove them one by one from the 214 and insert them into the 918+ without doing anything first?
Would the 918 will see each as a new drive and will reformat them and then add them to the SHR so it effectively goes from a mirrored RAID 1 to RAID5?
As they are currently in an SHR array, albeit a mirror, is that going to be a problem in the new NAS?
I have searched for an answer without success and Google etc only really deals with data migration, not re-use of hard disks that were in an array
Thanks in advance

Hi there,
I'm in the creative field and need a NAS that can handle a bunch of different tasks. I need to store and back up my photos, videos, and various work documents. I also want to back up my Mac and iOS devices. On top of that, I'm looking to host a website through the NAS since I do web design, and I'd love to set up a library for streaming videos and music at home.
Could you recommend some NAS models that would fit these needs, especially ones that are easy to use, scalable, and offer good streaming quality?
Thanks for your help!

QNAP Plex and HDMI |

Now that QNAP has removed Plex from its HD Station, what is the point of HDMI output now? Even QNAP said that including "HDMI out" on it's Plex page was misleading.

Hi Thank you for providing this services. This is my first time being in contact with you.
I have an arhcitecture firm i started 5 years ago.
I started off with DS223J 2 Bay. This had a fault so i upgrade about a year ago to DS224+
i have this nas synced with a second nas at my house for backup.
in both nas i have 2 8tb hard drives.
the one in the office (DS224+) is almost full.
should i upgrade to a larger nas or buy an extension pack?
i have seen a few extension packs.
i noticed one is a 5 bay. how does this work with raid set up.
thank you

Asuscomm.com to nextcloud |

Please please could I get some help. After watching your YouTube for the last 6 months I finally managed to purchase a motherboard and cpu combo. After realising I can't afford the rest I quit and sent it back for a full refund.
All I wanted is nextcloud and I have realised this might be possible just using a hdd attached to my asus RT-AC88U router. I've managed to set everything up as its meant to be except the free url of https://user.asuscomm.com points to aicloud by asus(absolutely garbage to use). When I try signing up to nextcloud with this url it just keeps failing. I'm guessing I need to somehow stop my url from opening aicloud and point it to my storage location.
I'm baffled how to do this I'm hoping it's a simple setting in my router or portforward or something. I contacted nextcloud about this and the just sent back a link for a paid service which I can't afford and there's no guarantee I'll get sorted so I'm stuck. Any help would be much appreciated please and thank you

Thanks for the valuable videos you post. Can someone connect their devices (PC, mobile, tablet etc) to home NAS off the internet while using Triband wifi/Bluetooth instead of switch board?

Hello!
Looking for any suggestions for 4TB NVME SSDs to use with my DXP480T. I've never had an SSD based NAS, so I'm not sure how long or how prone these SSDs will be to failure being used in a NAS.
Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Dan

Replace DS411 |

I currently use a DS411 NAS and have been very satisfied over the years. I would like to upgrade my current configuration for 4x4TB SATA drives by doubling its capacity. I use the NAS to store my photos (photography is a hobby), music, movies, personal information. I would also like to use PLEX on this new NAS for my movies at home. Reading your article is see that the DS423+ may have some future proof limitations and wondering if either I should wait a little longer hoping that Synology will upgrade their hardware in a new release or are there other NAS options out there. I should add that I also have a QNAP 2 BAY 231 that I only use for backup of the DS411. Thank you in advance for your help on this matter. Ron
