  Flashtor 6 vs TBS-464
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-13-2024, 11:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello, i couldn’t find a direct comparison on your channel for Asustor Flashtor 6 vs QNAP TBS-464. My primary purpose is to have a good plex server with fast data transfer speeds for file backups. I have a TP-Link XE75 mesh router system at home which has a 2.5GBe port and the device will be linked to it with all file transfers on 5ghz wireless connection on a 500mb down and 300mb up connection

My confusion comes from your videos covering these products separately where you’ve mentioned that Flashtor 6 has only 1 PCIE lane available per slot vs QNAP has 2 per slot. With the setup I have:
1. Will it either of these have a speed advantage over the other in file transfer speeds
2. With both having similar CPU if not the same, does one have the edge over other as a Plex server
3. In your expert knowledge of the industry do you think there will be an upgraded versions of these products released this year (2024) or are they no way near their respective life cycles

  Upgrading DS923+ RAM
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-13-2024, 10:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi, I'm looking to upgrade my DS923+. Was reading this: https://nascompares.com/guide/synology-ds923-nas-unofficial-memory-upgrades-crucial-kingston-sabrent-64gb/

and I'm a bit confused as to whether I can use non-ECC RAM. I'm looking at this one and was wondering if this is compatible:

  Qnap TS-233 DS223j
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-13-2024, 07:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi, i want to buy a two bay nas. It is bad, that in every test, review, you always give power consumption from brief, Qnap do not have any clear measurement methodology. I need NAS witch have power consumption as low as possible. I want to buy Qnap (10W) or DS223J (16W) but, Synology was tested witch 12TB drive (like they say), and Qnap? Who knows. I found yours site witch power table, but also data come from company, not real test. I want to buy TS-216G but instead of almost identical spec than TS-233 it takes twice power! Company should give me info about bare power consumpition and then, i can count power of drive (if it is logic). Could u help me?

Drobo 5N or 5N2 convert to TrueNas or Unraid
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-12-2024, 09:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi there, Like your channel BTW.
This might be an unusual question as I cant see it referenced on your site....but ....

1. Can TrueNas or Unraid be installed and run on a Drobo 5N or Drobo 5N2?
2. If so, which would be better? I.e. Would truenas provide a worthwhile performance improvement over the current drobo software or would the drobo hardware spec be a bit limiting and
therefore Unraid would be a better option?

This would (most likely) be used for a raided backup only of another NAS and likely just for incremental back ups.

Thanks

Deano

NAS to NAS not backing up
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-12-2024, 06:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I have the following issue and was unable to find a solution. I have two Synology NAS (DS923+ and DS1821+) on the same LAN. I am trying to use Hyper Backup to backup data from the DS923+ to the DS1821+but I am unsuccessful on making it work. I am doing the following:

-On the 1821+ I opened Hyper Backup Vault
- On the DS923+ I open Hyper Backup
- Select "Data Backup"
- Select "Remote Synology NAS"

- Fill out the following information: DESTINATION SERVER IP / PORT # / USER / PASSWORD used the default PORT but I am unable to connect to DS1821+NAS. I have tried PORTS 6281, 5000 and 5001 but When I click login I get eror message:

No pop up to allow credentials to be added

Am I doing or selecting something wrong?

Your guidance and assistance in this matter is appreciated.

Respectfully,

Yago,

  DS424+ vs Ugreen DXP4800 Plus 4-Bay
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-12-2024, 10:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I'm debating with myself, shall I go with Synology DS424+, the safe bet, but perhaps slightly outdated hardware, or shall I go for the new kid on the block, Ugreen DXP4800 Plus 4-Bay?

Assuming the price is the same for both, the Kickstarter risk wasn't a factor and Ugreen's OS goes out of beta within a year, which one shall I go for?

I want a NAS to do three primary tasks:
- backup of files+automatic backup of phone photos
- Plex media with transcoding to chromecast+phones
- Home assistant

Best storage to add to QNAP TVS-h874T-i9-64G for media server
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-12-2024, 08:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

After seeing your amazing review of the QNAP TVS-h874X-i9-64G several months ago, I've been saving to purchase one. Not sure if there's been a change of name from US to UK/Europe, but I've just ordered myself a QNAP TVS-h874T-i9-64G.

I currently have a Synology DS1019+ with DX517, which is used solely as a Plex media server. It's absolutely maxed out on storage, so my initial plan is to utilise the QNAP for all my 4K / UHD files going forwards.

It's a long term project, but I want to ensure I buy the correct / most efficient hardware to add to it. My next purchase will be a HDD, ideally one with a high capacity. Looking at the compatibility list provided by QNAP and your 2023/2024 best drives article I'm considering a Western Digital Ultrastar DC HC570, but wanted to know if you would suggest going in another direction?

Although I'm quite tech savvy, I've never got my head around Dual M.2 PCIe etc. Would my Plex media server benefit from adding something like this?

  Need portable 30TB option
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-12-2024, 01:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi! I am a video/audio producer that works with 4k video in DaVinci Resolve.

We currently have 12TB of data and I believe we will be using about 5TB/year, so I am hoping there is a budget-friendly, travel-capable (SSD) option that can hold at least 30TB of storage (after RAID).

I've found the Asustor 12x Flashstor and it seems like it has the storage capacity and portability, but I am unclear whether it will support the transfer speeds to completely support my 4k video editing.

Is anyone familiar with this solution or are there any other options that fulfill our requirements?

Thank you!
-James

  Confused
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-11-2024, 08:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi,
I wrote you 2 weeks ago and got a great response, thanks and sorry to bother you again. After that I was ordered TS-473a but cancelled it after I saw the hardware (TS-473 has a CPU from 2021)on UGREEN series and watch your videos. But I am very confused now.
I liked to use the NAS for backup my media over cloud (photos from my phone), create some WMs, SMB and Plex. So, I thought that UGREEN solution DXP6800 Pro has a perfect price/performance machine which I can use for a long time. But when I start to read software part I started to afraid because the software is not good enough and we could now will it be supported or not. I also create a WM for Truenas scale, it seems good but don't know can I trust third party apps for backup my media. Also, I want to start 2 -3 hdd not want to use all drives while I don't have that much data, so I need to be able add new disks and increase my pool. Is it possible on Truenas or other alternatives?
Thanks again,
Best regards,
Oezay

Hyper back up for business versus hyper back up
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-11-2024, 07:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello. I’m kinda confused between hyper back up and hyper back up for business. I have all my important files saved on a drive in my closet just in case. However, I’d like to be able to back up all the settings and the virtual machines and the docker containers. I’m confused as to which method I should use to make a copy of my Nas and all its files and settings. I was going to buy another Synology to do this, I’m just not sure which route to go .

God forbid System crash. I’d like to just restore from a back up and everything be exactly the way it is now.

Thanks for all your help.
