I have the DS1522+ with 2 500GB samsung SSD's. I was wondering if I would get more speed if I replaced those with 2 1TB SSD for caching. What are your thoughts on that.

I am using QuTS on TS-855. I have a raid 5 with 3x16TB and I am expanding with 3x18TB. What is my best option? Note I have 2 NVMEs for system pool. SATA SSDs and NVME for cache already. 
I am seeing the options for 'Create and Add new raid group" so that is 2 raid 5's with  a 3x18T raid and  3x16TB raid 5 with stripe. This makes another raid 5, but I am not sure if the end result is a raid 50. Is it? It says my capacity will end up at 59.99TB so it is utilizing the 18TB drives fully I think.
or 
Add to existing Raid Group. Here I can choose raid 5 or 6 or TP. Raid 5 gives 71.68TB ,  Raid 6 gives 56.25 TB.  
Are the extra 6TBs from the 3x18TB lost in these these cases?

Which is the best option to not waste the extra capacity of the 18TB drives and be fast? 
Will that raid 6 and raid 50 (?) be much faster than the raid 5 expansion? 
In my case with the different drives is raid 50 better than raid 6?

This is just a home NAS with my data, pics, vid, movies for remote use, AI for photo recognition, etc with future plans to host my own web site and small game etc.

Hi from Spain. , I'm thinking of setting up a NAS with 3 disks for raid 5 and another SSD/Nv2 disk for cache and Operatin system. I wanted you to recommend the right hardware. We will use it only 3 staff in a house. The NAS would want it for the following:


- File server

- Phone backups

- Pi Hole

- Emby/Plex Server

- Some docker



I would like to....



- Be quiet

- Sufficient performance

Mainly store my all google photos for now, and for future as well.
Plus run WordPress development. and store my design work at home and download in my office.
I am confused between QNAP and Synology. I prefer good hardware and quite as well. And an easy to use mobile app.

Can you please advise me on how to connect a DS923+ to a PC WITHOUT any local network or internet? Like the only thing the PC and NAS are connected to is themselves. Imagine a scenario where you're trying to connect your PC to a DS923+ where all wireless infrastructure is not functional. I watched your video using the mapped drive system and ISCSI, although the video was good, your laptop was still connected to the WiFi, so the connection worked off that. I tried to do this by having an ethernet line only between the PC and NAS and by turning off the WiFi of both the PC and the NAS. I was unsuccessful, but I think I am missing something that could make it work. I also looked into creating a virtual DHCP server via my PC and making it work that way, but I couldn't do so since I couldn't find a DHCP program that was safe to use/didn't look very sketchy. Could you please advise how to do the wired-only connection or how to create a connection with a virtual DHCP safely? Thanks.

I am currently building a Terramaster F4-424 to advance my current system. It will have (2) 8 TB HDD and (2) 12 TB HDD. I will be using the system mostly for Jellyfin server that will be used for sharing with about 8 different households. It will also have a couple other services used for just my home like file backup of the phones.

My biggest question is I don't know what size m.2 SSD cache to use. The system comes with 2 slots. Should I spread the cache size over the 2? Meaning if I need 2TB of cache size is it better to use (2) 1TB sticks or is it the same performance to use (1) 2TB stick?

If half of my NAS is for a Jellyfin server, is the SSD cache going to be that helpful?? I imagine it will be good for quicker loading of the jellyfin metadata for all the households but how much space is that really going to take up? 1 TB seems like a huge amount just for metadata cache mostly?

Currently have 1gb virgin internet, Asus ax11000 router with X1 2.5gb port and X1 10gbe port. (2nd router used a 5ghz backhall to serve everything downstairs via wired from it and wireless)

I'm upgrading my nas/server connected wire upstairs that I use for file storage and Plex to a new one with 2x 10gbe ports.

How do I upgrade my network to match? Just wire from the router or do I need a switch? I sometimes work from home on a laptop which I connected wired to the ax how do I get the best speeds between devices?

I am a beginner user of nas and know very little. I would like a nas strictly for Plex media server. I would appreciate any advice. I know my budget is low. I know not to expect it to be powerful.

Hello, there is no urgency getting back to me on this. I am a high school teacher and i was trying to think of a way my classes (around 60 students) and others could access lesson content (mostly excel files) and my library (about half a TB of pdf documents) from school and at their homes from their personal computers. I was thinking a NAS could be ideal. But i would want them to be able to access and download the same documents at the same time (even if it is only read only). What do you recommend? Thank you.
