Hi
Are there any Nvme DIY kits/builds for creating a home nas?
I'd like to create an SSD NAS , and have decided that nvme is a better option than SAS or SATA.
I've also seen the Asustor Flashstor NAS, but worried that the processor might not be beafed-enough to run dockers like photoprism etc.
Thus I've started to look at nvme NAS' in the range of €300-1000 and not alot of options out there.
I have seen stuff like ICYDOCKS ToughArmor MB873MP-B V2, but they talk about Oculinks etc that I have no idea about.
Which brings me back to question, are there any nvme DIY kits/builds that someone starting out in NAS, would be able to build?
Thanks in advance.

QNAP updates and video? |

Hello Gentlemen,
First let me say how very informative your videos and content is, thank you very much!
I play with various NAS's and enjoy them all. Right now I'm having the most fun with older ones and a fairly new TS-453E.
I would like to humbly ask for an update video on the 453E and also on QNAP in general. I hope QNAP are paying you for the advice you gave them! It appears they took you very seriously so keep it up!
I also ask to report the new beta of the OS that has a bitblocker built in, really cool (again I credit you for the pressure).
QNAP as a company are entirely different in the last few years. There have been at least 6 updates and many app updates. The new beta has speed improvements and other things.
When you reviewed the 453E it really helped me think about it. To me it is the best value for what it does and QTier on the faster M2 slots is sweet. QTier being both a cache and a pool is really a nice feature.
Again thank you for your channel and help!

I just read your review on the D-Link DWR and I am totally sold. However, I can only find two in the US for 2x the cost of the same in the UK. I was just wondering if it's not possible to use it over here. I even went on the D-Link website to see where I could purchase it and when I selected the US for point of sale it gave me nothing. I'd like to just purchase over there through amazon if I can, but I wanted to see if you knew of any issues using it in the US. Furthermore, do you have an amazon store I could purchase through, or if I go through the you tube link does that earn you any sort of commission? Let me know at your earliest convenience what my options may be, if any. Thank you kindly. I very much appreciate your videos, as I am subscribed and "linke" pretty much all the ones you've put out. Thanks again.

DS 1821+ expansion options |

Good morning (for me anyway),
I currently have a DS1821+ configured as follows:
8 drives 4 x 8TB, 4 x 16 TB, SHR-2, BTFS
The 4 x 16Tb drives replaced 4 x 8Tb drives which remain perfectly serviceable.
My question:
- Do we think its better to eventually replace the remaining 4 x 8TB drives with 4 x 24TB drives and keep leapfrogging sets (whilst only having 8 drives; OR
- Perhaps purchase a DX517 and populate that with the currently idle 4 x 8Tb drives?
Regards,
Mark
Are there any performance considerations with spreading the pool across two devices, etc.?

Best NAS for Astrophotographer/video and Consulting Small Business |

I have watched all of your NAS videos and recommendations and cannot make up my mind on best option for my needs. Requirements for my consulting business with 2 main users. Along with using the solution for my astrophotography hobby where I create 100’s of large image and video files that get processed in special software, including image, video processing.
In one astro session I can create 1TB of data. Once processed only 25% of the data remains but access to the data for future reprocessing is needed so the storage ideally needs to be fast and not the bottleneck.
An all SSD NAS or combination HDD and SSD might work.
Thanks

I know Synology has an app where you can back up your iPhone pictures to the nas. Do you know of any other NAS brands that offer a similar app for this?
I'm still looking for a nas and thinking synology (great software, poor hardware) or terramaster..
thanks
Alan

Want to replace google drive (with ability to have it download to all computers), google photos (with ability to see/delete duplicates and keep highest quality image), back up 5 computers, 6 smartphones, backup whatsapp, plex server at 1080p and use home assistant with z-wave.
A few questions
what is the best raid setup, im thinking 6?
is ZFS or BTRFS that important?
ARM vs x86?
I was thkinking about the following
QNAP TS-464-8G-US and I would buy an upgraded ram module (and probably buy direct from western digital with 4 8tb drives, it comes to around 1k)
or
Synology DiskStation DS423+ using SHR.
Other thoughts were
QNAP TS-410E-8G
QNAP TS-453E-8G-US
QNAP TVS-h474-PT-8G-US
Synology DiskStation DS923+
ugreen nasyn DXP4800 plus
ugreen nasyn DXP6800 pro
terramaster F4-424 regular or pro
Asustor AS504T
Asustor AS6704T
