Quiet NAS HDDs |

Which seem to be the quietest 7200 rpm NAS HDD for 12TB to 16TB? I'm using Seagate Ironwolf Pro 10TBs in a QNAP 453D (RAID 5) and they are too loud when working in the same office. I've also used WD RED Pro HDDS, but only in the 6TB form factor (so quieter than the Seagates). I'm looking at moving to the TerraMaster F4-424-Pro with unRAID and four new drives. Any advice appreciated (but not interested in consumer HDDs as reliability matters).

Hi Robbie,
i have a TVS-h874 with 6x6tb Ironwolf drives installed (2 spare bays, unused). I've just bought 2x12tb ironwolf drives, not installed yet.
I intend to get another 4 ironwolfs (ironwolves??) but would i need to?
Can i get another two, totalling 48tb and somehow have the raid rebuild using less drives than the original 6x6tb?
I'm currently using raid 5 and have about 13tb of data over these drives.
Any advice or solutions would be greatly appreciated.
Love the Youtube videos!!

Require NAS Recommendation |

I recently purchased 5 (one spare) refurbished drives off of Ebay: Seagate ST12000NM0127 12TB 256MB 7200RPM 3.5" SATA 6.0Gb/s Enterprise Hard Drive
Hopefully they aren't complete junk or unreliable.
I'm looking to set them up in a NAS at my office to store general files / spreadsheets / photos / graphics design files / videos and marketing assets.
I've got through your configurator and watched several of your videos but hoping you have one or two NAS suggestions that are easy to set up and just work well. I don't need bells and whistles, just file security.
Worse case, a single computer is connected directly. Better case is multiple computers are connected wirelessly (still with a wired option), and ideal case is both of those plus the ability to access the drive directly remotely (securely).
No top secret docs here, but proprietary info, patentable info, financials etc so private.
I searched "best NAS for RAID 10" but all results were the opposite, best RAID for your NAS.TY

How Can I Find and Remove Duplicate Photos on My Computer? |

If you prefer not to use third-party software, you can also find duplicates manually by sorting your photos by name or date and looking for obvious duplicates. However, this can be very time-consuming if you have a large number of photos.
Alternatively, you can use built-in features in your operating system: - On Windows, you can use File Explorer’s search features to find duplicate file names or sizes.
- On Mac, you can use Finder to search for files and sort them, although it’s a bit manual.
- KMTTECH Duplicate Photo Remover App– If you’re on a budget, this tool has a free version that works well for basic duplicate photo finding.
Let me know if you need any more details!
Cheers,
Kant

I am retired and discovered a love of photography and that I am good enough to sell my landscape work. I travel frequently for a month or more in my van. My home gets hit with hurricanes so I would like to have a second unit in another state. Thus I could have double copies at home and a copy elsewhere. Ideally I would like to be able to upload to the units in case my van gets broken into or I lose a card. I work mostly in RAW/NEF format with Nikon Transfer 2, NX Studio, and Corel Painter. Laptop with Thunderbolt, separate monitor when home. How does that work in re to graphics? With a low end laptop without Iris XE it was awful. Alternative way of sending a few quid?

I currently have Terramaster F-424 and a D6-320, both setup as Traid. I was looking up to having my TOS operating system and apps installed on an SSD but need to know what size of SSD should I buy for this task.
Also is it better to install.buy a separate SSD for Cache?

Choice of HD and Software |

I'm looking at either a DS224+ or TS-262-4G and I know you've written comparisons on these. I have 2 questions, one on choice of HD and the other is software. My primary use case is for archival storage and to use as cloud storage for pictures taken on my phone (iPhone). Reading though the docs on Synology and QNAP, Synology doesn't exactly say that pictures taken on you phone will be automatically upload, where QNAP does. Also which is best for this application. The second question is, is it worth buying 7200 rpm drives over 5400 rpm drives. Is read/write speed of the drive the limiting factor or is it the throughput of the NAS. Also any thoughts on WD vs Seagate.

Hi,
I am looking to set up a new NAS for my son household that it easy to keep. The nas will be used to backup pictures and videos from the two iPhone in use and backup files from a PC and Laptop.
I am thinking of setting up a Synology two bay entry level NAS. what will be the best way to backup the data in this NAS considering that availability and speed of access are not an issue? I have two solution in mind:
1) set up two high capacity hard disk in RAID 1 and leave at that.
2) Set up one or two drives in RAID 0 or JABOD and then attach a suitable USB drive with nightly backups with Hyper Backup.
Any advice on what other NAS hardware alternative there are and what of the two options above will be best?
Thank very very much.

Basically I have a DS920+ I'm using as a dedicated Plex server.
I'm currently running 4x 16 TB Iron Wolf Pro's in Raid 10 Configuration which effectively gives me about 29 TB's of usable storage.
The problem is I'm down to my last 3 TB and need to start planning next steps.
Here's where I need your advice, which of the following do I do and how?
Option 1) Upgrade all the HDD's to 20 TB Seagate Exos or Ironwolf PRO (I'm not sure which one is better). If I went with this option I would love some advice on how to go about doing this.
Option 2) Purchase the DX517 and just use the expansion and add to my config. Honestly have no idea how this works.
Option 3) Something else entirely I haven't thought of.
I'd love to know how to proceed - please and thank you in advance!

i am wondering if its smart to wait for the upcomming Asustor lockerstor 4 gen 3 or just go with the gen 2....
Seeing the intervieuw you did with lockerstor some time ago and the second time you went across the world for an interfiew... i noticed that the Gen 3 wil not have integrated graphics (he stated he was pushing for an intergration with external gpu (i have a spare gtx1080 laying around dont know if thats usefull)
At this point i want primarly 4k atmos movies on my server to use with my atmos setup so the NAS has to have the option for transcoding.
Im planning on using 2 bays ironwolf pro 16tb raid 1 with 1tb M.2 ssd cash read write
And some spare 4tb m.2ssd s i have in my pc curently.
i have the house completely on Cat6 and just bought the asustor 2.5 switch so connectifity should not be a problem.
(My current setup is an 6tb movie library on my shield but that's full)
Is thare eny news for the release date?
Is thare eny hope for the Gen 3 or does Gen 2 fit better?
