Advice on fan speed control for non PWM motherboard, or just switch? |

I purchased a HKUXZR N5105 motherboard, and only just realized that the case fan speed cannot be controlled as the board only has a 3 pin connection - no PWM support. This is an issue as I'd like to save power, and keep noise low if the system isn't being used as it currently sits in my office.
What are my options? Is there a method of modifying the BIOS to get the fan to run at a different speed based off the total system temp (or ideally average disk temp), or should I instead just buy a different motherboard with PWM fan control support? It looks like there are a number of containers that allow PWM fans to be set based on disk temp.
If you'd recommend a new board, any pointers to boards that have 6+ sata ports, support for 32GB RAM, and low power? My case is a Jonsbo N4 (supports mini ITX or micro ATX).
Thanks!

TS-453Be, bought 2019 never initialized. Already upgraded RAM to 8g, 4x WD Red 8 T drives
Two "Gigabit" ethernet ports, info sez upgradable for 10g, but does not specify if I can just upgrade to 2.5G. Is there a specific recommended PCIe card I need for 453Be?
Need PCIe adapter for USB slots as well or not?
Also, would like to add MVMe card for cacheing; is there a specific PCIe card I need for 453Be?
Budget not an issue, just want the right expansions the first time before initializing.

Keeping ds923+ or change to DS423+ |

I am considoring selling my newly purchased 923+ and go to a 423+ instead. The issue lies when I playback certain home videos and movies as with transcoding, cpu of the 923+ gets hit hard casuing buffering. I am hosting Jellyfin on it which serves the content.
I also have two other options which include re-encode all content to a supported format by most players on my android devices and TVs or else I host Jellyfin on an external HP elitedesk micro pc with an AMD ryzen 5 2400GE which I use as a Proxmox server and 64GB Ram. The downside of having another PC running is the extra electrical cost which I can maybe mitigate by having the PC only run with Wake on Lan and switch it off when not in use (It will require teaching my parents on how to use it). Most videos are family videos as well as a library of 1080p and 4k movies which I will need to encode to x264 or compatible format. I have some x265 and old mpeg1/2 videos from an old camcorder which will need transcoding.
Going with a 42

SSD nas synology |

Hello,
I would like to setup a ssd nas server, preferably synology.
I wonder is it better to use 3 disks, each 2tb, in raid 5 or to buy 2 disks, each 4tb. In case of failure of one of the disks it looks as it would be better to use lower size to replace failed one, but what are other advantages/disadvantages?
I was eyeing 2,5" SATA 2TB WD Red WDS200T2R0A as a candidate for my use.
I would also like to know your opinion about what unit to choose. I'd prefer rack unit, but its not a must-requirement. I plan to use unit in 2,5gbe networking environment so it should has 10gbe upgrade card?
I found RS1221 - are there better alternatives? How long will this product be supported by synology? Is there a chance of synology rolling 24 series unit in upcoming months?
And lastly, do you have any networking switches with 8-ports and 2,5gbe networking that you could recommend? I found QNAP QSW-1108-8T, do you have maybe better alternatives?
Thank you in advance
Regards,
Thomas

Can you recommend a 2 bay NAS that doesn't suffer from the LPC bug. I bought a QNAP TS 251 and followed you excellent series on setting it up. Great channel and great content but I could use some advice.

Hi,
I'm using an old asustor AS6404T, but I'm having some trouble with it and thinking about changing it for a new one. I'm currently using for archiving all my movies/tv and using it with plex and storing all my work files (not working directly, but having the storage connected to wifi). I already have 4 HDD seagate that I'm using witthout RAID. Nothing fancy but would love to be silent and powerful, thinking about having it running transmission also.
Not a super tech guy, so I like something easy to configure.
Thanks

Hi - have an old 2 bay Synology. Has served me well. Time to expand though - need a 4 bay for storage only. Going to run my own OS (TrueNAS, Unraid, something like that). Just need storage and fast networking. Thinking Terramaster F4-424. Is that what you would recommend?

I just watched your video How to Restore, Reinitialize or Factory Reset your QNAP NAS and Drives. I have watched a number of your videos and found them very helpful. Thank you for taking the time and making the effort to help. Can you tell me how safe it is to do the reset process? Can data on the NAS be recovered by a knowledge person? I look forward to your response.

Hi, great in-depth analysis of the drives. I am wondering if you could give me a quick idea why my 2 new WD 18tb Red Pro drives have varying scores from week to week even after a reboot.
I posted to r/pcmasterrace with screenshots running CDM
