  Sorting photo galleries
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-25-2024, 10:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi,

Can you tell me whether it is possible to set a permanent way of sorting photos for each album in the Synology photo application?

I have qnap and in QuMagic you can change the sorting method, but it is default for all albums and the main set of photos. Additionally, it does not work if the album is shared and such an album is always sorted from the newest to the oldest photos.

That's why I'm asking because it's terribly annoying.

Thank you
Tomek

  NAS for video editing
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-24-2024, 08:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

Hey guys, just wanted to say, love the videos!

I am a video editor, I currently use a mixture of SSDs to edit from, however I am looking for a solution to backup all my footage and potentially edit from in the future.

I was looking at the Synology ds1522+(5x16tb Seagate Ironwolf pro drives) and the DS1621+ (6x 12tb Seagate Ironwolf pro Drives).

After reading your review, I've seen you say that they struggle with video playback of 4k. My question is, is there a better alternative for my budget? Also, my computer is currently 1gbt, but I would like to have the option to upgrade the NAS to 10 in the future if I I should upgrade my editing computer.

NAS advice for document backup redundancy
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-24-2024, 04:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello, I have 2 external HDDs that I backup my documents on. I have about 800GB of data, but can project that to increase to 2-5TB over the next 10 years (mostly photos and videos). I am looking for a home NAS to add redundancy and prevent data loss. Do you have any recommendations in the sub $200 range? I only need to perform the backup a few times per year.
Thanks in advance!

  Reset Button on H874T?
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-24-2024, 04:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Just purchased a H874T. Yesterday, Qfinderpro found the NAS the first time, but while I was setting up I lost internet access. Today, when I tried to finish setting up, Qfinderpro is unable to find the NAS. I have no way of seeing it. I was told I can do a factory reset on the back of the NAS but on don't see a reset button? Can you help me please. This is my first time using a NAS. Thank you so much, in advance.

  NAS Advise
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-24-2024, 01:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Actually I have DS218play.
We use it for backup folders of work and studies for 4 laptops at home.
When we go out for hollidays we use Surveillance Station.

I'm trying to run Jellyfin (with no success), homeassistant (OK), Radarr, Sonarr, TransmissiĆ³n + plex (OK but with the NAS suffering).

I'm looking DS423+ but I don't know if it can run Jellyfin but them self or must need a NUC in case of needs of transcoding.

Plex NAS Server for 4k Local and Remote
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-23-2024, 11:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi there! I just came across all your posts and man do I need some help. Firstly I have been using a Drobo 5d3 for a long time now directly connected to my iMac 5k and then to my my studio. Never had any issues and had Plex running flawlessly. However the Drobo failed and the company is out of business now. So I ended up buying a Synology which I thought would be perfect. I bought the DS1522+ 5bay. I dropped in 5x 12TB drives and set it all up. This is all new and building out took forever and the transfer of media took even longer. Finally got it all setup and now that I have upgraded my TV and Surround sound system I wanted to start upgrading my content to 4k. However as soon as a 4k stream starts I see it immediately using 100% of cpu on the Synology. What can I do to resolve this? I would hate to scrap a brand new Synology I just bought! There must be a way to be able to enjoy 4k both local and remote using this setup. Do I have to make sure the files are a certain forma

Looking for NAS/DAS to expand storage for SFF Plex Server
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-23-2024, 06:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

Hello,

I already have a SFF HP Prodesk 600 G4 with 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD that has Portainer and Jellyfin on it.

I'm looking to add a NAS or DAS purely for storage and allow Jellyfin to run on my SFF server for any Transcoding needs or other computationally expensive tasks.

I'm having a hard time finding the right solution for this. I could build my own, but it seems like something like the Asustor Drivestor 4 AS1104T might be a better bet.

Would love any thoughts you can provide for my situation.

Thank you,
Brad

  Picking out a Plex NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-23-2024, 05:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi, Big fan of your videos and wanted to see if I could get some guidance on buying a new NAS. I'm replacing a Drobo 5N and want to hold at least 300-400 movies and TV shows or more. I believe most of files are MKV or Mp4 files. I've been looking forever for a Synology 9020+ but can't find them at all or way above my budget. So, Now I've been looking at the Synology 1522+ but worried about the lack of a graphics chip like the 9020+ has. I've went through a lot of your videos and it seems the 1522 holds up pretty well except for some really complicated big files. I wanted to know if the 1522 was a good option and more of an explanation on how to take the load off the cpu if possible if I used these files. In the video you mentioned the client side and I was a little confused if there was some way to mitigate not having you in this model or if it's even necessary. I would run everything from Mac Mini which I've should work. Thanks for any help you can offer. I appreciate it. -John

  Synology DS423+ or a DS920+
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-23-2024, 04:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi Guys, I really enjoy your reviews, so much so that I'm a little confused with which replacement NAS to purchase.
I currently have a DS412+ which is getting close to its use by date but still functioning. I have 3 Synology HAt5300 12tb disks on volume 1 and 1x Seagate 4TB for Volume 2.
I don't think I need to use an expansion unit in the future, as I have only used 9TB out of the 21 available on Volume 1.
Would you go for the 423+ or the 920+ (I can get one)
I am leaning towards the 423+ and using one or 2 of the NVMe slots and adding the 4GB of RAM.
Or should I get the 920+ and go up to 8GB RAM (is 2GB RAM that much different) and using the NVME slots as well. Or would the NVMe cards be an over kill?
Or should I just wait until another version comes out with all the bells and whistles later. I primarily use the NAS for PLEX and storing documents and family photos.
I don't think the 1GBE Port is a deal breaker as I only have a 1GBE Zytel GS1100-24E switch. Thanks in Advance.
