Which NAS TO GET ? |

Hey Robbie
I believe I have watched almost every single video you have posted.
Finally, I have bought Asustor nimbustor but will send it back due to unreliable and unfinished HDMI Asustor Portal interface and no possibility for NVME caching. I know I can use the extra two remaining bays ( i have started with 2 X 8TB Ironwolfs, still waiting for delivery), but I also saw your video on SATA SSD and nVME SSD caching and guess SATA would not be much efficient?
Moreover, I really want a powerful enough CPU and caching / RAM so that when I want to look through and scroll over thousands of photos ( could be up to 10 MB each), I don’t need just to see empty thumbnails and wait for pictures to load correctly.
I also want to play 4K on my 4K TV (not necessarily on my mobile devices) but really with 60 Hz.
2.5 Gbe ethernet would make it future proof, I believe. I look at the QNAP TVS series, but when I look at CPU benchmark test sites, I figured out the margin between AMD Embedded R-Series RX-421BD and the new Celerons (for example, Celeron J4105 @1.50GHz built-in Asustor and Synology, etc.) are just too narrow!!! But people call it powerful nas!
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/
3302 vs. 2964 CPU Mark, does it mean that this Asustor Nimbustor is VERY CLOSE TO THAT so-called powerful QNAP TVS NAS?
I am baffled ?♂️ plsssss help
Many thanks
Saeed

Hi,
Happy New Year. hope it will be a smashing one (the bar is low compared to last I guess! haha).
I used to have a home theater PC with about 2-300 movies and because of Windows not supporting the media centre anymore, I need to move onto a NAS. I also still have dvds that I need to burn.
I am looking for simplicity and not too many "boxes". The QNAP TVS-872N with a DVD drive seems the best available as I wouldn't need anything else to burn my movies as well as use the two hard drives I have on my old HTPC. what is the alternative? a NAS (most like QNAP as I need HDMI) with an external drive or a NAS with a mini PC (I think there are no mini-PC with disc drive right)?
hope this all makes sense
Stay safe
Cheers
Alex

Home NAS for $1500? |

The NAS is purely for storage of movie media, with a focus on 4k.
This will stream no more than 2 movies at a time
I plan on running a 4 bay, and starting out with 4 TB drives, running Raid 5
Recommendations?

NAS newbie!? |

Hi, I read about NAS recently and have since plunged into the depths of the technology, but I am somewhat lost! I am a photographer and would like to have a system in place that would allow me to back up my photos to amazon photos automatically, ideally without my computer being on. The goal is to have a cloud-based backup in the event of a fire or theft. Ideally, I would like a 4 port as the business is constantly growing, so I can buy one good-sized hard drive initially and then add to it as and when required to spread the cost. If it's possible, then being able to edit the photos directly off the hard drive would be a bonus, but maybe this is asking too much in terms of speed?
From what I have read from your site, I had the Synology DS420j in mind, but wondered if you had any other suggestions or input?
Many thanks in advance!

Synology 1621+ drive compatibility? |

I have some 4TB Seagate Ironwolf drives (ST4000VN008) and i would like to put them in a Synology DS1621+ NAS, however they are not on the compatibility list as provided by Synology. Does it matter? I am pretty sure they will work but are there any other considerations to think about e.g warranty?
Thanks

Synology NAS choice ? |

Hello,
Would you recommend I go with DS 1520+? Especially if it is only $50 more than DS920+ ? I think DS920+ satisfies my needs.
-- Currently Amazon is up charging for DS920+. Amazon selling for near $650 (seemingly above list price found everywhere for $549) and DS1520+ for $699
-- My concerns are really the increased noise (located in office room) and power consumption of DS1520+
-- My use: I will be backing up several (5-10 computer users) and support personal cloud for them. Some digital media..
I have watched over several years to buy what would be currently the Synology DS920+ 4 bay NAS. Have not purchased previously, not having funds, but now have saved enough Amazon credits to purchase from Amazon.
Appreciate your reviews and your advice. Thank you,
-T

RAM for Synology DS920+ NAS ? |

Question.. I know maximum RAM is 8GB for DS920+, but I hear users use 16GB without issue.
-- Is 16GB RAM (2 x 8GB) really a problem to be avoided?
-- I understand there are warrantee issues, but are there stability issues or other use issues that would steer away from the 16GB RAM option?
Thank you,
tony

QNAP TS-332X and TS-932PX to support QuTS Hero? |

Hi. I have spent a day trying to find out which QNAP NAS'es will support the new QuTS Hero OS. I cannot seem to find that out :-(
My use case is backups (Apple Time Machine) and storing and editing audio files. I would like my backups to be fast.
I am leaning towards QNAP TS-332X and TS-932PX with some SSDs for Qtier and caching + 3.5" drives in RAID.
Is it likely that these can support QuTS Hero properly for file handling purposes if you upgrade them to 16GB RAM? (non-ECC, I guess)

Dear Team,
my name is volker Bosch, i live in Germany and i have been following your youtube channel for a long time. Now I have some questions. I am a photographer with a current inventory of 60,000 photos and occasional jobs for video editing in 4K. I work with Apple IMac 2015 with Thunderbold 2. In the next few months I will get a current IMac. So far I have worked with the QNap TS-451A. The data transfer is very slow and the machine is clearly too loud when it is on the desk. Four Seagate Ironwolf 6TB hard drives are installed in the Qnap.
Now my questions:
1.) Would you work with a customer from Germany?
2.) Is it possible to retrofit this NAS with a Thunderbold card?
3.) Can I convert the hard disks with my data into a current QNap device without losing the data?
4.) What is your recommendation?
I look forward to your reply
Volker Bosch
