Hi,
Firstly I'd like to say I'm a big fan of your videos and easy tutorials.
Id like some advice on the below if your able to help please?
I have a qnap nas 453mini 4 bay currently with 2x 6Tb in raid1.
Im mainly using it for music storage from my CD collection, all ripped in FLAC.
I listen to it streaming off a Cambridge CXN streamer and will only read files when Twonky is enabled on the qnap. But I recently discovered another type from a company called dbpoweramp. They have one called Asset UPnP (DLNA compatible. I've downloaded a trial but really in Two minds what to use. From your knowledge are you able to tell me whats best for me to use? Hope the above is clear enough ? thank you

Device to play media from NAS over Ethernet? |

Hi
I found your website and was wondering if you possibly have some advice for me... We have the following setup - and are missing a key piece:
Setup:
- WLAN / LAN network in my house
- Drobo NAS, connected to the network (it has an IP and everything)
- An ONKYO digital receiver/amplifier: this connects to the beamer, the speakers, etc.
What we are missing:
A device which can (via WLAN or better LAN) connect to the NAS on the network, access the media there (photos, music, movies, ...) and output them to, e.g. HDMI, which we can then connect to the ONKYO receiver.
So far we always used a laptop for this, connected to the ONKYO receiver via HDMI cable. This is obviously a hassle... Some years ago I once had a "Popcorn Hour" player, but that broke at some point - and I wasn't really able to find a similar device again...
We really only need a device to play media off of the NAS - we don't have Netflix or any other streaming services and aren't looking to get any... And it seems that nowadays all the products I can find focus on free or paid streaming services from the web, not accessing your own NAS on a local network...
Do you know which device would serve us well?
Price is not a huge concern - I'm rather concerned that we'd want to make sure that it is possible to update codecs/encodings/... to make sure the device is able to play the latest audio and video formats (that was always a problem with the Popcorn Hour, it never was able to play x265).
Thanks a lot in advance for your help!
Cheers,
Florian

Multi channel (7.1) output from HDMI? |

Great review, thank you for that! (I've also watched the various Youtube reviews for the hardware as well as software side, where you looked at the HDMI output on your monitor) I was curious as to whether the HDMI port is able to output multi channel sounds, i.e 7.1, over various codecs. I read somewhere that the native app had its license expire, so multi channel with DTS, atoms etc were missing. One of the main purpose of the NAS will be to act as a media centre as well with lcoal files as well as Netflix, directly connected to a Denon AVR with a 7.1 set up. thks!! If The Nimbustor 4 can do this, are there any other NAS that can do the same, but better?

NAS? |

Plan to scan my many negatives with a photo scanner and then save them on a NAS.
My problem is that many digital photos are also on both Google Photos and One Drive.
I am unable to bring them together on, for example, Google photos and then transfer them to a NAS. To then also remove the duplicate photos.
My knowledge of a computer is limited so that a NAS, of course, shouldn't be too difficult.
Perhaps you can provide me with good advice, for which I thank you in advance.
With many greetings from Germany.!

What nas, for professional photo storage of only edited files? I have other NAS systems where i host and work on RAW images and video files. I am looking to have a seperate unit that is dedicated only to hosting the final edits for clients and design team to access. Hosting 3 copies of each file, 1MB jpg 10MB JPG and 30 MB TIFF files,
I already have a remotely connect moments catalog running on our synology ds3617xs and looking to recreate the moments photo experience transitioning from a a ds3617xs at the most affordable rate. Looking for a unit that provides a smooth moments viewing experience

Synology DS920+? |

Hi, I have recently started watching your videos. It has helped me a lot with my first NAS so thank you very much for helping people like me every day!
I bought a Synology DS220j a few weeks ago but I returned it after getting frustrated with lags and holdups due to 512mb ram and instead bought a DS920+ with 4gb added ram module, after your recommendations. I am so confused about the transfer speeds. I have a new cat 6 cable as well as 1000mbps connection in the network settings. But for some reason, I only get 20-30MB per second transfer speed. Sometimes it fluctuates to 40MB per second but sometimes to 10 for a little bit. I spent hour plus with Synology's help desk online. The agent couldn't help me. My computer is directly connected to the router which is connected to Synology he said that these speeds are normal. I have my chat transcript emailed to me as well which I am happy to share. I sent the agent a screenshot of 13MB per second transfer and he said this

Thanks.

Can a NAS run my plex server? |

I have a custom built PC which has a broken motherboard that I was mainly using for Plex. It was built 12 years ago with a first gen i7 6 core and a GTX470 GPU. It has served me fine for what I have wanted though at times it struggled with top 4k files.
I am the main user and can direct play to my 4k samsung tv. However remote use of IOS and family use it so transcoding needs to be considered. I would rather have a NAS running in the background for Plex, radarr and sonarr etc than a PC which wouldn't be used for anything... therefore headless would be better and more power efficient.
My concern though is no NAS I have seen is capable of the capacity and I don't think there are any I can put a GPU in to over come the transcoding issue. Overall CPU seems fine its just graphics power I think they lack. Could you help advise if there is a NAS or would a custom server be better with GPU and SATA backbone?
Thanks,
Edward

Was looking at the tvs-h1288x. Looking for something my family of 5 can use with good remote use. Sometimes 2 or 3 members of the family will remote stream. Trying to find a good nas that can plex transcode up to 4 connections to be safe.
