  Asustor AS5202T?
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-28-2020, 03:37 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

Hello, After much research and watching your videos I decided to buy this NAS. It worked yesterday but today my computer does not find the NAS using Asustor Control Center. I shut down and restarted everything but still no luck. As a test I used a wireless computer and it DID find the NAS.

Main computer connected to same router as NAS.

Help! Thanks!

Cheap 10GbE Nas for Video Editing and Post Production?
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-28-2020, 03:37 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

Hi NAS Compares Team,

I want to setup a 10GbE NAS for my self. I am a freelance Digital Artist. I do 3D-Rendering, video editing and post production.
I need to handle large files. I want a solution wich lets me edit directly from the NAS. I handle 4K video files, thats why I need 10GbE (I think?).

I dont have a huge budget. I want the cheapest available 10GbE solution that works with my desktop PC.

This is the stuff I have chosen right now:

NAS: TS-332X
Switch: QSW-308-1C + DAC Cable
10GbE PCI-e Card: QXG-10G1T
HDD: 3x 4TB IronWolf

Will this work together as I expect it?
Will I have the full troughput at my PC and will I be able to edit 4K Video directly from the NAS?
Do I need a SSD for caching?
Can I connect (via another switch) multiple machines to the single 10GbE copper port of the switch with full bandwith?
Do you think this is the cheapest solution I can get?

Many thanks!

Best Regards
Jonathan

Looking for NAS 218+ or 718+ (220+ would be great)?
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-28-2020, 03:37 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

Hi! I found your page and was happy to see how good you compare the hardware! (excellent, if you ask me)
Well I want to use my NAS for all devices PC, IPhone and Laptop and as a cloud for my family (3 users at the moment).
I would like to convert old CD, DVD's perhaps VHS and share pictures. Maybe even a IP camera in furure.

I've been looking for quite a time to step in and have my own NAS becase you can't even share clouds when you're an Android user and want to convert to IOS.
I was thinking the same way 218+ is a three year old device shouldn't I wait or look for DS220+...

Would be great to hear from you and your comments.
cheers Adam

  Photo storage?
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-28-2020, 03:37 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

Hi,
I have watched loads of your YouTube videos and they are really helpful but I am struggling to decide on what Synology NAS to buy. My uncle has the DS216 but I was thinking maybe there is something newer and better now without breaking the bank?. However, I may not need something newer. I just want one that I can keep for a really long time.

All I want is a storage device where I can save all my phone photos and videos directly to it. I need to be able to put a CD in it as I have hundreds of them with photos and videos on. An app where I can view all the backed up stuff anywhere and anytime and as I am so worried about loosing everything, I thought a 2 bay system would be great as it's backed up twice.

I have been looking and saving for a while for one of these and any help would be appreciated. Thank you so so much x

  NAS Advice?
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-28-2020, 03:37 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

Hi liked reading your article.
I have currently a ubuntu server with ZFS raidz 2 6 drives wd red 4Tb. The server is aging and I am really thinking if I should build or buy a NAS, As for NAS LOOKING AT DS1019+, So here are its cons in my mind,
1 you cant have a 10G nic card
2 Apps are installed on the pool, so In my current setup I have my docker containers including emby on a ssd for faster load times, with ds1019+ metadata will be stored on the slow disks, I know about nvme cashing but I really dont see that as a solution as files have to be accessed frequently to be cached.
So if you were in my situation would you still go for a NAS or Ubuntu server build and ZFS since I have the skills for it?

Prices in Malta no drives included as I already have them

DS1019+ 770 euro

My Build 650 euro that includes I3 quad-core and 32gb ram.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this and giving me your advice

Regards

Chris

Switch to use for Nimbustor 2 AS5202T?
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-28-2020, 03:37 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

Greetings! I just ordered a Nimbustor 2 AS5202T. I will primarily use it as a media server, but I also have a gaming PC with a 10gb Ethernet port and would like to connect the PC to the NAS to store my Steam game library on it. Which would be the cheapest link aggregation switch you would recommend (If cheap is even an option) to connect both 2.5gb ports to the switch and then use the switch to connect to the 10Gb Ethernet on the PC Thanks!
