I'm a big fan of your YouTube channel, really informative and entertaining. Keep up the good work!
My use case is along the lines of your YouTube review on the Synology TVS H874, however I will use it with Zidoo playback devices but not with PLEX.
I believe Zidoo uses SAMBA 2 software to access ISOs.
If the Synology TVS H874 with Intel i7 will work best in my use case, what about adding SSD what will that add, if anything?
My collection is approximately 2,000 discs, CD, DVD and Blu Rays...
I look forward to your reply.
Most kindest regards,

Network storage for Apple ecosystem backup, Plex 4k streaming, and file sharing |

Hello!
Thank you for the invaluable information you provide on your site. I'm considering investing in my first network storage solution, and I'm inclined towards Synology, given its reputed compatibility with the Apple ecosystem.
My primary use will be for home and family (total 4-6 users): backing up multiple iPhones, running Plex both locally and remotely, and serving as a general file server. Initially, I was contemplating the DS220+, but due to its bay limitations, I'm now leaning towards the DS920+. However, I'm also open to other options like a mini PC. My preference is for a user-friendly interface that's fast, won't lag, and requires minimal maintenance.
Highly appreciate your advice and looking forwards to hearing back from you.
Thanks

Update from WD EX2100 |

We installed a WD EX several years ago and it failed while in warranty. WD replaced it with a EX/DL 2100 series. It has been running for about 6 (or more) years with one major OS update. We don’t use MS AD but have many local users. Security to folders is troublesome. It continues to log CIFS unknown user errors. Anyway, with the age, I would like to update to newer technology and use the WD as a backup. We have many users that edit their files remotely as well as group folders and files.
Thank you,
Dale Herbranson

Hello there,
I was wondering if there would be any newer model releases for DS 1522+. I was thinking of getting one of these for my business as a backup server. Is waiting for newer 2024 models of similar specifications worth it? Thanks

Hello! Your videos on youtube are by far the most thorough! I'm hoping you can help me!
I'm a single user of three different macs. I work in film and I render separate 3d blender files on each mac all day long. The catch, all of those blender models should be pulling from the same linked data in one central storage. I'm tired of having to physically connect hard drives and lose precious texture links to my 3d files! This is where I THINK a NAS comes in.
Since my computers will all be in the same room, I thought thunderbolt would be best, but I can't seem to find the right solution. I tested the Iodyne Pro Data and found that while speeds were great, the constant mounting and un-mounting of drives was a pain. I'm close to pulling the trigger on a QNAP with SSD's but am weary of the thunderbolt speed. More or less, I was hoping to simply access all of my storage, simultaneously, quickly, across all machines. Does this exist??!! I know you guys will know!

I have a TR-004 attached to my 464. I started out with an 8 and 2 18TB drives on Raid 5. I bought another 18 to replace the 8 to get more TB for now. When I pulled the 8 out and put the 18 in, after the rebuilding, I still had the same amount of storage. I followed the directions, what little there were. I looked around, contacted QNAP, no response. I'm at wits end trying to figure this out. Any suggestions?

Drives Disappear on Synology DS1821+ |

I am using a powered USB hub to manage four backup drives attached to my Synology DS1821+ NAS. After updating to the latest DSM version, USBshare2 disappeared from both the control panel and the network. When I unplugged the drive however, I got a notification from the NAS that the drive had been improperly removed. I rebooted both the computer and the NAS to no avail. I then ejected all of the remaining drives, removed the hub. Rebooted the NAS again and added each component back one by one. This made things worse. Now 2 of the four drives don't show up. Plugging the drives into a computer has verified that they are operational and good. Any help?
(Apanage USB3.0 Super Speed 8 port powered hub) Everything was working until I updated the DSM (7.2-64570)
