  sim router
Posted by: Enquiries - 10-21-2023, 05:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I need help. I need to get internet into a barn where my granddaughter keeps her horse. I am within a mile from the cell towers and but I don’t know what to buy to make it work. After watching your videos, I see that I would need a 4 or 5G lte router and a modem or a combination router/modem, an exterior antenna, and 2 cameras. I would like to have POE connections on the router. I have watched many youtube videos on this type of equipment but most of them are using cheap routers and Chinese antennas and I have no confidence that they will work for me. You seem to be at a much higher level of knowledge in this area and I have watched your videos but I get lost in the terminology used in explaining things. I’m not a technical person.
If you could help me I would be truly grateful. I will be using a “T-Mobil” sim card.
I'm an old retired geezer, so cost would also be a factor.
Thanks, John

NAS in a country with 3-4 hour power cuts
Posted by: Enquiries - 10-20-2023, 10:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I live in Indonesia, and there are occasionally 3-4 hour power cuts. I am using an ASUS NAS with 62W power draw. I know that UPS typically aren't supposed to power things for hours, but could I buy a powerful UPS that could power my 62W NAS (lets say 120W for the calculation) for up to 4 hours. Recommended APC model?

Lenovo IX2-DL Asking for Original Drives After Power Adapter Failure
Posted by: bigdaddy034 - 10-20-2023, 09:13 PM - Forum: Technical Support - Replies (1)

I get the following error after the power adapter failed & I replaced it.  The drives were not changed.  Lenovo ix2-dl Not Ready Your device is in an inconsistent state because the original drives were replaced. You can either put the original drives back or perform a factory reset to erase all existing data and use the new drives. To perform a factory reset you must first clear the administrator password by pressing the reset button on the back of the device.

  Synology & Switch
Posted by: Enquiries - 10-20-2023, 02:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi,

I've recently upgraded my router to a Synology rt6600ax one. I'm looking now at switches to complete the wiring and I'm undecided between a unmanaged or managed switch. I've been looking at the managed ubiquiti unifi flex mini but afraid the managed part of it won't be very compatible with the Synology router functionality. Right now I've split my network into safe home network, IoT and office for work laptops that are isolated. Does this makes sense or should I go for a simple unmanaged switch?

Thanks,
Andre

  Moving forward from QNAP TS-673
Posted by: Enquiries - 10-20-2023, 09:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Dear Eddie / Robbie,
I am wathich your youtube channel and already found a lot of valuable information that helped me with my QNAP TS-673.
As I plan to move forward, I started thinking about Synology NAS (my sister got for her business 923+) and I liked the simplicity of Synology.
I am puzzled if I should stick with QNAP based on my new requirements.

NAS requirements:
- min 4 bay, 6 is OK
- 4 CPU cores (preferred)
- sync between NAS same brand (over internet too)
- backup email and workspace (google), data, photos
- video pass-through (Does Ryzen has it?)
- multimedia streaming
- survileance 2-4 cameras
- user friendly interface, straighforward, responsive, smooth experience
- good tech support
- min 2.5GB lan or PCI port
- virtual machine (1 is OK)
- encryption of data
- nvme ports (option)
- integrated GPU (preferred)
- no need to buy additional licences
Not needed: scalability, video editing
Don't like about QNAP: slugish, not intiutive, for IT geek, security issues.
Thank you

  PLEX On SYN DS920
Posted by: Enquiries - 10-20-2023, 08:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Thanks so much for instruction vid on setting this up PLEX on NAS.

I was using NAS for Content storage and running Plex server on Windows PC.

I have 2 questions

1. Created new server on SYN DS920 and all worked fine with the exception of Music. Plex can find any albums. Have pointed to correct folder and granted permission to Plex to R/W. Not sure how to trouble shoot. TV,movies & Pictures worked fine.

2. Is there any way to copy metadata (predominately on watch I have watched) from windows Plex server to NAS plex server.

There was a help on plex around copying all meta data but thought this might cause issues because directories ( although both same physical location) are described differently in windows OS & NAS OS

Thanks is advance for any help you can provide

  Network
Posted by: Enquiries - 10-19-2023, 07:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi,
We have a small business. There are only 3 of us. We currently have our data on Dropbox and share our files between us this way. Can we go with a NAS system? We only need to be able to access our files between us, and it would be nice to access them outside the office as well.

I was thinking of backing up the NAS to carbonite? What do you think is our best option?

Our files are between 100MB to 250MB. They are Autodesk Revit files. We would need to prevent someone else from accidentally accessing a file if we have it in use.

Thanks!

Synology Active Backup for PC - can folders be excluded?
Posted by: Enquiries - 10-19-2023, 06:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

I would very much like to be able to be able to exclude select Windows PC folders from the Active Backup (device) backup process. I see that I can instead target specific folders for backup if I'm willing to set them up as network shares on the Windows PC but that is a totally impractical solution. I bought a DSM723+ with a pair of 12TB drives to replace an old HP Windows Media Server (getting difficult to maintain) and it had this ability to exclude folders from backup and it really is a necessary feature for any Windows PC backup application.
