Hey there. I want to make a NAS from one of the Jonbo N4 or N5 cases. I will need a bit of space because I want a few key things. I would like to be able to expand my storage down the line. I would also like a 10 gigabyte network port. I would like to have a descent/power efficient GPU as I would like to run an LLM off my NAS and would like to use it to run my Jellyfin server. I would really like it to have a bit of power so I can run I good amount of docker containers on it. My question is what case/motherboard/CPU/GPU do you recommend.
Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it. I have no clue what I’m doing.

Which NAS for 4K RAW video? |

hey guys, I wanted to know which NAS you thought was better for video editing.
I was looking at QNAP NAS TVS 872-XT or the TerraMaster T12-500 Pro.
The extra disk space on the TerraMaster is kinda appealing as most projects are around 1 - 2TB worth of Media. But i'm worried about the over all speed of the T12-500 Pro compared to the QNAP. However the QNAP is around 1000GBP more to by. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks so much and keep up the amazing work!

Hi Robbie, great videos ! I'm new to NAS but settled on QNAP 464 so i can create a media server, photos and music along with normal back up for my other stuff. What Im not clear about (even after watching your video on the subject) is what is the best op sys to load. I know you suggested a celeron is too weak to handle ZFS but then why is QNAP offering it for my model -- thankfully i was able to increase the RAM. Im hoping you can provide the proper direction I should move in -- and yes i will want to use Plex or Jelly fin and will set up on internet so my family can access movies and photos. Thanks in advance! Glenn Kopriva

Hi
Followed the guide and everything seemed to wrok great. Package running, rebooted NAS. All good.
But Network Interface says my speed is still 1000mbps.
Using front port on DS920+ File transfer speed tops out at around 114mb/s.
I can access the NAS no problem via the WavLink - it's the only network connection after I pulled the two ethernet cables.
I'm connected via network switch but all my equipment is 1000gpbs.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

NAS requirements for a Data Hoarder from Malaysia |

Hello there, I'm Russ from Malaysia, and I'm a big fan of your YouTube channel! I'm new to the NAS and Server world, currently using an i5-6500 attached to a mining motherboard to hoard data. The specs aren't impressive, but they get TrueNAS up and running.
However, I plan to ditch that i5-6500 for a smaller footprint NAS. Here are my future thoughts:
I plan to build one myself.
I stream PLEX at 4K to my TV downstairs.
I hoard photos from the past 20 years.
I hoard other data as well.
My TrueNAS is near the attic, attached to a LAN router. It’s not the best setup, but computer parts are expensive since we live on an island. The internet is decent (300MBps).
My current setup:
Photo dump
i5-6500
ASUS BTC motherboard with 4 SATA ports and 4 SATA extenders
1x Kingston 128GB boot drive
1x 512GB drive
1x 60GB drive
The irony is my main data is hosted on my main PC running on Windows:
2x 1TB on Spaces
1x 2TB on normal
I'd love to hear your thoughts and recommendations on buil

Best replacement for old 8 bay synology |

I have an old DS1813+ with 8 drives that I need to upgrade. It is way too slow. It is running SHR with two drive fault tolerance. What would be my best option for a faster (better processor/more memory) that would be the least hassle to migrate to? I also don't want to spend an arm and a leg if I can avoid it.
Thanks

I am looking to set up a personal cloud system for my family and myself, I have a large amount of historical data from my work histry that i do not need to access every day, however I do need to access it infrequently for reference purposes or for templates. I am currently carrying around 2no. 1TB hard drives with this information.
Further to this both myself and my wife have a considerable amount of Photo's on our phones and tablets we would like to archive but have the ability to access when we need to.
Thank you
Barry

Exos Scan - Synology Commands |

Hi thanks for highlighting the issues, and ways to check. You have documented the vanilla commands, but you showed a Synology specific check, with much longer commands, that are undocumented. Could you share, please? There was also a commented raised on that video:
"14:50 that's not aggregation, grep is mostly a text search and here it filters the output of smartctl to the lines like Power_On_Hours, which is just plain SMART data.
since the SMART data has been reset on affected drives, doesn't that make this command useless for figuring out if you got scammed?"
You said you would investigate - did you get a chance.
Thanks, again
John
