Hi,
Wanting to set up a solution for my own family and extended family (parents, sister and sister's family). Looking to replace our cloud subscriptions.
Here are our main priorities:
- File/Photo/Video Backup
- Good software for the above, particularly photo/video management/search
- Offsite backup (2 locations, at least)
- Good online access
- Expandability (there are 8 children in total, some of whom will become adults soon)
- Small business use (though less important as I use Onedrive)
- Possible media (video editing) backup in future
The last two points are less important.
From the research I've done, it seems like Synology is the best option (best software). And probably having two NASes in two locations. Is having the same NAS in both places necessary or beneficial? I'm wondering if I can have one as the main NAS (e.g., the DS423 (not +) looks like a suitable option for us in terms of price/spec) and something simpler as backup. Keen to hear your recommendations. Thanks.
