First NAS Advice

#1
Seeking a home NAS solution. Primary purpose it securing family important family documents, photos, videos, etc. Secondary purpose is using as a media server to for TV & mobile clients. Tertiary purpose is to run VMs for system admin lab/project work and setup a Pi-hole.

Realistically have <1TB of data right now but looking for room to grow. LAN infrastructure is current 1Gb.

It depends what speed on those VMs do you need. It is very similar like buying a laptop or PC. Budget NAS like DS923+/ ts-464 come with power-saving hardware. But performance will not be like you would expect from a modern PC. For that you will need i3/i5 based models such as Qnap 74 series. https://www.qnap.com/en-us/product/tvs-h...s/hardware

I hope this helps.
