First NAS Advice - Enquiries - 12-08-2022 Seeking a home NAS solution. Primary purpose it securing family important family documents, photos, videos, etc. Secondary purpose is using as a media server to for TV & mobile clients. Tertiary purpose is to run VMs for system admin lab/project work and setup a Pi-hole. Realistically have <1TB of data right now but looking for room to grow. LAN infrastructure is current 1Gb. RE: First NAS Advice - ed - 12-13-2022 It depends what speed on those VMs do you need. It is very similar like buying a laptop or PC. Budget NAS like DS923+/ ts-464 come with power-saving hardware. But performance will not be like you would expect from a modern PC. For that you will need i3/i5 based models such as Qnap 74 series. https://www.qnap.com/en-us/product/tvs-h674/specs/hardware I hope this helps. |
