  NAS for RV
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-05-2024, 05:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Looking to RIP the many DVD and some Blu Rays to a Media server that I can take in the RV when vacationing. I have a Cellular internet connection but would like to stay away from using it if possible. 1080p would be more the sufficient. I will be hard wire ethernet to both television to the network switch with the router all 1GBe. I need something that isn't too big to carry and transport in my RV. 120vac power will be available at all times.

  Decision between DS224+ and DS723+
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-05-2024, 05:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi, I found your videos on youtube when searching for information about the new Synologies and the alternatives between their models.
I'm thinking about purchasing the DS224+ but I think the DS723+ has beeter performance, right?

PEr other hand, if I understood it correctly, the DS224+ is better for streaming, if used as Plex server or similar, as it has integrated graphics. Would it be much different if I configure Plex on the DS723+?

If not, which model yould you recommend for a home use (Phone mobile backups, private documentation backups, medai server, local database)

Thank you in advance!

Cheers,
Franco

  Ram upgrade DS920+
Posted by: mtguido - 03-04-2024, 04:01 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Good morning,
I would like to increase the ram of my Nas DS920+.
First I would like to ask you:

1) what is the recommended solution?

I was oriented in buying an 8gb bank but I refer to your advice.

In case you also agree with this choice, I would ask you which model of module to buy. I looked at this guide: ht*ps://nascompares.com/synology-ds920-nas-20gb-memory-unoffical-upgrade-guide/
Unfortunately, however, choosing crucial 8gb, the link leads on amazon to a search for 16gb.

2) Would you then point me to the exact tested model of 8gb crucial ram module?

THANK YOU

  SHR verses Raid 5
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-04-2024, 11:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

In a DS1522+ with 5 Exos X24 24TB's is there any point using SHR or is it just best to use Raid 5 if there is no real prospect of any upgrading etc?

  Should use new, different NAS?
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-03-2024, 09:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Have been using McCloud PR2100 for years with Plex. Now, with new Dell laptop and Windows 11, I am struggling to overcome Permissions issues with my Public folder of the NAS. Some files/folders are still accessible Read/Write. Others "You do not have permission, this container does not ..........". Talked to Microsoft tech, then to WD tech. This tech was able to make it work for half a day by making it Private, then Public again and by changing the IP address to 192.168.1.241.
Do I need to go to a different brand such as recommended by you, also with expanded storage, also Plex capability?

  New to NAs
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-03-2024, 04:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I am totally NAS blind and have been soaking up your videos for help but have managed to focus on the DS423+ because of the integrated video card with 2x 8 - 12 TB HDD (Seagate exos) initially....Is this a fair interpretation of your videos? I would like to be future proofed to a degree but I'm not a business and only have home use in mind so don't want to buy a Rolls Royce when a mini will do. Thanks for all your help guys Smile Phil

  First NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-03-2024, 05:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I was trying to follow your idiots guide turning a pc into a NAS using a mini pc and the terramaster D4-300 enclose to put my 16TB drives in. These are brand new drives and UNRAID is installed but doesn't see the drives so the array is stopped. I don't know if I need to take the drives to my pc to format them or what steps I'm possibly missing because I seem to have gotten myself stuck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  QNAP Failure
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-02-2024, 05:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I have a QNAP TS451+ which has died (motherboard failure). I have moved the disks to a TS453A, but while it recognises the disks (RAID5) it tells me they are encrypted and need a password or key file to unlock. I do not recall setting this up and none of my standard passwords work. QNAP say the password was likely saved in flash memory on the dead box.

Do you know of recovering the data that was on this RAID array? Foolishly, this was the only backup...

  SSD NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-02-2024, 09:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I currently have an iMac 2015 which I am going to be replacing with a new M3 iMac. I didn’t want to include more than the 256Gb that’s included. So wanted to use a NAS drive store all my other data including movies, photos, documents etc. I previously had a couple of WD 2Tb hard drives to keep my movies on but they died & were unrecoverable without sieving more than a few thousand to do so. So I’m looking at the Flashtor 6 for my home setup & would appreciate some help/advice as exactly what SSD’s to use or indeed whether this is the setup I should be going for.

Please help.

Many thanks,

Kou.
