TS-453D with 18TB HDDs? |

Hi, thanks for your tremendously helpful videos on youtube. I am wondering if you can tell me how often Qnap increases the supported size of hard drives in their units and firmware. I know they have an approved list and there are no 18TB drives on that list currently. I am wondering if I should just keep these drives that I purchased and wait or if there is some reason that it will simply never happen with the TS-453D. It has been hard to find this information anywhere and Qnap won't commit to it NOT working, they just say it is untested and unsupported at this time.

Hi i enjoy your review of nas units. I am trying to build a home media server and as i do not have a lot of money i hope to build it over time. my question is . can i add more disks to the same volume or do i have to create a new volume every time i add a new disk. I was planning to start with 3 10 tb disks in a raid 6 and add more drives when i can afford . is this possible on the f5 221 terramaster. thank you for your assistance

Wondering which NAS to buy. I need it for private and small business. I use a lot of apple products and want to back up pictures from all of them. This is really important. Also use som windows products for business. Here its crucial with security. Want if possible to be able to have multiple backups if possible. Sizewise My iMac is 3 TB and then I have all these iPhones and stuff. And in addition my business pc, but its not that big yet. Im also concerned about noise. Want it as quiet as possible. Also want it to connect via Wifi. Speed as high as possible. What do you recommend
What do you recommend?
Im also wondering is It poosible to run windows on a NAS and let my kids play games from steam directly on a Samsung TV from the NAS?
Regards
Morten

Will the Seagate Exos 14TB work properly with the 720+? The compatiblity list doesn't mention this type of hdd for the 710, but other older DS models are mentioned. List not updated yet? Or did I miss something.

DS220+ vs DS210J? |

Hi
First, great You Tube channel. I have a DS210J and it has served me great however I'm heavily getting into photography and found that my DS20J is too slow both to upload 100s of pictures at once and also to access via DLNA. I'm sure it has always been like that but I was a light user before and maybe I didn't mind. I'm ready to upgrade and I'm considering the 220+. My needs is a 2 bay to use one HD as the main one and the second one as the backup + external drive as second backup.
I don't know how much upload/download speed improvement I will get from this or anther Synology that would be worth investing money in it.

I Just Bought A DS1621+, I'm Running 6 - 12Tb HDDs In Raid 5. Is It Possible To Run 4 SNV3400-400G To Have 1.6Tb Of Cache? This Would Make The System Have 2% Cache. 2 Drives Would Be In The Internal Slots And 2 Drives Would Be On The E10M20-T1. Thank You For Your Time And Help On This Matter.

Synology 1819+ with the free card or the Qnap TVS 873? |

Hi Saw your review of both the 1819+ with the free card and the Qnap 873... In terms of use where i would be using the NAS units for hosting VMs, Media (plex server) would you much more recommend the Qnap rather than the Synology unit?
Seems like the Qnap has more going for it based on VM and plex... is this still the case?

SynologyAssistant for Mac? |

I ordered a Synology DS220+ after you you assured me that it would be able to host Time Machine backups of multiple Macs. (Thank you for your quick and clear reply.)
Now that I have the DS220+, I turned to your video "Synology NAS Setup Guide2020" on YouTube. All went well until I downloaded the SynologyAssistant app from the Synology web site.
It was rejected by Big Sur (Mac OS v.11.1) with the following messages: '“SynologyAssistant.app” can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software. This software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information.'
I seem to be at a dead end.
What can I do?

DAS options 2020? |

Hey there,
Found a few articles on your site about DAS devices. I've been internet sleuthing for a while to try to find the best options and feel like I'm almost there. Let me set some context first.
So, I live in a condo, two TVs, both with some Plex Client (Roku or Shield).
I have an Intel NUC running Windows that runs Plex, Torrenting software, and Backblaze.
My current storage is a 4 drive Mediasonic Proraid device with a setup of 16TB in a RAID 0 configuration (yikes, I know).
I want to keep a hardware RAID on the DAS, rather than having Windows do a Software RAID mostly because I don't trust Windows to do that for me.
I'm looking to get a new DAS device, but am stuck in decision paralysis. My current options are:
- Another Mediasonic Proraid
- QNAP TR004
- Drobo 5C
For Drives I'm looking to get 4x10TB WD Red Pro's.
I was just about to buy the QNAP TR004 and then I found some folks complaining about read/write speed and now I'm back to the drawing board.
