TS-230 crashes (Ko-fi2812)? |

[Ko-fi2812]
Set up running: QNAP TS-230, newest firmware, 2TB Seagate IronWulf compatible, RAID 1.
All working fine, except: NAS started freezing (ping OK, lights flashing, but no response on Win, GUI, ssh, telnet). Needed hard re-boot twice.
Afterwards, it also kept randomly crashing itself, endless file system checks and RAID resyncs.
Happened during initial setup, while MultimediaStation had finished indexing (>40k photos) and during creation of thumbnails, and while the QuMagie stuff (facial rec, object rec etc.) was running.
To investigate, I stopped all apps and let it run for a night - all fine. Then restarted them one by one, starting with MultimedStation. Which led to instant crash.
So stopped all services and re-started first DLNA (fine), then PhotoStation (fine). So QuMagie was the culprit (causing the crashes).
Could re-start all other apps fine.
Might have contributed by putting the "fan mode" on silent-automatic (even though that shouldnt be how it works...). Put it back to normal.
SOOO my question: can I use QuMagie, not that thumbnails are done and all runs stable?
Or is it too much? Or should I uninstall PhotoStation?
Don't want to cause more crashes and lose endless time on re-syncs etc.
THANK YOU!
Best from Berlin

Best NAS , I should go for 4K movies, PLEX? |

Hello,
I wanted to buy NAS for my entertainment setup (4K movies, PLEX) and started watching your YouTube videos and articles.
I got some ideas from your videos and sorta decided QNAP TVS-682-i3-8G-US but still not really sure if this will be the perfect model which can really go fine with zero or minimal (minor) issues for long time.
I want to connect NAS to 4K Denon receiver via 4K shielded HDMI cables connected with gigabit ethernet cable to watch movies/shows.
Receiver will be connected with 4k projector. (receiver will get connections like (NAS, Blu Ray Player, Chromecast etc.)
Please give your expert advise on the same.
Thanks,
Kuntal Pathak

Hi,
I'm planning to buy a DS920 from Synology to upgrade my DS214play. I'm using my Nas as a personal cloud for 1 desktop, 2 laptops and 2 phones, a multimedia server with 4k video and continous CCTV with Surveillance station with 4 cameras. What is the best choice to maximize performance: change the standard 4GB DDR to 8 GB DDR or should I use the SSD caching option?

Hi. I need to connect a Synology NAS to my router by wifi. I have seen your suggestions but there is no date on the article; everywhere else I find that the latest Synology NAS OS has dropped wifi support (why???). I do not want to purchase another wifi dongle (I already have several) if it's not going to work. So, is this article up to date and will the dongles you suggest (for example, you suggest 3 DLink models - I have a DWA171 and it is not recognised) work with the latest OS update? Thank you.

I dont really have a budget but I would love to future proof myself (same as I did with my desktop computer) I own a video production company thats scaling quick! I am looking for a NAS system that I can edit 6k raw footage that I can access remotely and it keeps the speed.

I am interested in the Synology NAS for my home, but I am not sure what models to purchase. I live in a two-story house. My office is upstairs, and this is where my router and two desktop computers are. Port one of the router feeds an 8-port switch for all the equipment upstairs. Port two feeds downstairs to an 8-port switch that provides all the entertainment equipment TV, AVR-Receiver, X-Box, etc. I want to have my Movies, Music, and Photos on Plex and transcode 4K video. So I was thinking of purchasing a DS220+ or a DS720+ just for media. For upstairs, connect a DS1621+ and have two connections, one 10gbe connected directly to my editing PC for editing video and photos, a one Gbe connections for everything else. The DS1621 will be used for backups for all four PCs, running one docker container Minecraft server for my grandson, and maybe two Linux VM's. My thinking is running oneway sync for photos from 1621 to the DS220. All my main camera video files will remain on the 1621 and backed up to Back Blaze. Is this a good idea, and if so, can I get away with just purchasing DS220 over the DS720? I am open to other options. I know the QNAP QNAP TVS-672N is another option but Synology is my first choice.

Video best NAS for Photographers? |

Hi nascompares.com Team
In a video „best NAS for photographers“ you perfectly described my dream functionalities and identified the Qnap TVS 872xt as the answer.
For us 8 bay seems like overkill we wonder if it is better to buy this and partly populate (prob 4-6 HDD max) or to buy the 672 xt (cheaper, less powerful)?
Thanks for your thoughts.
Best regards
Andreas

Hi, just watched KODI v19 Matrix on a QNAP NAS - Installation Guide so one problem solved. My son works away and we are trying to cut costs, my thoughts buy a Nas and transfer some of my content so he can access via a browser on his ipad or Windows laptop.
Looking at a 2nd hand QNAP TS-453Be and then the brick wall.
Do I buy new or second hand and what are my first steps.
Nick
