Hello. Your reviews are so helpful and we are so grateful for them. Allow me to express a few questions though... I was a WD user as from very recently, but after so many years WD decided to end support on MyCloudEX4 as they stopped the Cloud OS3 leaving us hanging.... So now I'm thinking to get the Synology DS420+ fror my home cloud. My questions are these: Is there a possibility that Synology will end support as WD did? How long do they keep supporting their products? Can I use any upgrade item such an NVMe drive other than the ones recommended? The same with HDD...
Can we ignore the compatability list that Synology recommends? I saw a video of yours installing an non-Synology recommended product, which worked fine, but can we really do it with any product?
these compatibility issues are such a pain and the only obstacle from allowing me to purchase it. Do you recommend any other Synology NAS diskstation fro heavy home usage?

I appreciate your time.
Sincerely
Nick T.

If you get a new NAS, you can expect the end of support after 10 years. Here is a list https://www.synology.com/en-uk/products/...hase%20Out
This does not necessarily mean that you lose access. You simply do not get new versions of the operating system.

Regarding compatibility lists, Synology home-based models will work also with non-listed drives and NVME. With caching make sure the endurance rating is at least above 0.5.

I hope this helps.
