NAS for 4k Video Editing and Storage...

#1
I spoke to a rep at QNap and he recommended the TS-855X for Storing and editing 4k video from Lumix S5 and Black Magic Cameras. Much of my video will be 1080, 10 bit as well from the Black Magic ATEM Extreme ISO.

Also being considered is the QNAP TS-h973AX-32G 9-Bay QuTS Hero NAS with 10GbE/2.5GbE. Alex Pettitt of the UK is using this model with success.

Not sure about the Asustor Models.

Your thoughts?

Thank you in advance!

Considering your requirements for 4K video editing and storage, the QNAP TS-855X seems like a solid choice, especially if you're working with high-quality footage from Lumix S5 and Black Magic Cameras. Its 6-bay configuration, along with support for 10GbE, should provide the performance needed for your video editing tasks.

Additionally, the QNAP TS-h973AX-32G is worth considering, especially if you're looking for a 9-bay NAS with QuTS Hero and robust networking capabilities.

While Asustor models weren't mentioned, it's always a good idea to explore their offerings, such as the AS6510T or AS6508T, to compare features and performance.

As for your budget considerations, investing in a NAS like the TS-855X is a smart move for long-term storage and accessibility. External SSDs can be handy for specific tasks, but a NAS offers centralized management and scalability.

Starting with a 36TB setup and adding 2TB SSDs for caching should give you a solid foundation. Just keep in mind the potential need for expansion in the future.
