Gaming NAS?

#1
Hello,
could you please help me out to find the ideal NAS for home photography management and ideally also to handle games (in Full HD would be sufficient) for upcoming years.

So far my candidates are DS-1522+ that does not have integrated GPU or PCIe GPU expansion option but has DSM with better Synology Photos and better Virtualisation and Container options. The other option is TS-673A which has possibility to add external GPU card but the QTS is a bit drawback. My main concern here is that the Games (Age of Empires 4, Starcraft 2, diablo 3) running on the VM will not be in ideal playable state on TS-673A therefore it is not worth investing the money into this more expensive option.

Thank you in advance.

Technically your NAS with 10GbE card will be faster than your internal SSD in your computer. You can connect it via iSCSI to be seen as an internal drive.
TS-673A is better for 4k plex transcoding. Otherwise, FHD and HD will work just fine on DS920+/ DS1522+.
But you are right about the apps, Synology might be more appealing.

I hope this helps.
