SMB Share Stability Problems

#1
HI

I have a DS1819 which I have set up as direct connection to MAC Mini M1. This was in the hope of managing our large (many TB) Lightroom Catalog directly on the NAS.

Basically Mac M1 connected via Sabrent 10 Gbe Adaptor to the E10G18-T1 expansion card. I have also tried via the Sabrent 2.5Gbe adaptor.

The SMB network shares are regularly dropping out 4 or 5 time a day. It is at the point where I am questioning this setup for my needs and looking at DAS.

I can't seem to find a iscsi Initiator for m1 and I am not sure if to us AFP rather than SMB. (AFP unsupported by apple)

Anyone have any suggestions? I have invested a lot of money in this setup.

Thanks
Jon

Yes, you should try connecting via ISCI if you need stable connection.
I hope this video and article helps

Hi Ed,

I looked at this but it appears to only work with x86 Architecture.  In the video they are using Intel based Mac.

Thanks

Daemon Tools with the ISCSI target add-on might be the solution you need.
It's a little dated and there might be a more modern alternative, but it does seem to work with the M1.

I also found this great link - not sure if it's still valid though

UPDATE:

Thought I would give an update case it helps someone and close the post.

The SMB stability issues were cause by the link dropping. I have a stable connection with the Sabrent 2.5Gbe adapter through a QNAP 2.5Gbe switch now.

For some reason the link drops when directly connecting to the E10G18-T1 via the Sabrent Adapters.

I haven't got the time at the moment to test out and investigate further and am happy with my solution for now until I can afford a 10Gbe switch.
