Guidance on purchasing first NAS?

#1
Hi

Been looking at purchasing my first NAS. I will be using at home, I need multi users...

I currently leaning towards a Synology DS 920+

Uses will be:
Photos/Videos (want to transition from Google Photos)
Computer and laptop back ups
Multi media for films (not overly important) - mainly upload my old DVD collection.

Happy to have a tinker around with VM etc but not much experience of this.

My key question is for photo backups, if I was to use for instance Synology Photos, could I set up each user to have access to their own folder of photos only and not to able see all the photos?

So for instance if I had 4 users using the Nas for storage and they each downloaded Synology Photos onto their mobile devices. Can I set it up so that when they open the Synology Photos app on their phone it only shows their own photos and not all fours users.

If you could also provide some guidance as whether the ds920+ would fit my needs that would be brilliant

Thanks

Yes, Synology Moments app will allow you to replace Google Photos. Each user will have access to their own library only unless you create a public share.DS920+ would indeed be a better choice if you want to play with VMs or Docker. It comes with a quad-core CPU and upgradable RAM. These are crucial things for virtualization. Soon Synology will release their new DSM7 system which will come with new and improved Moments (Photos) app.Plus series models also come with graphics chip which will all you to access your DVD rips over the internet. And Synology Drive app will not only sync your laptop folder just like Dropbox but better. It will also back up the entire computer.I hope this helps.
