NAS SSD

I have a DS923+ and want to add an SSD drive for use with VM's. Also, is it recommended that I mirror two drives for this purpose? I appreciate your response.

In SATA drive bays you can use any SATA based HDD or SSD. Preferably Firecuda, WD Red series.
NVMe slots officially only allow Synology NVME (unless using a hack then DWPD 0.7 and above type of SSD is recommended).
RAID1 is a good plan to avoid data loss.
