Asustor ADM

#1
I have a AS6704T NAS. Volume 1 is installed on NVME #1. I believe that the ADM software is installed on Volume 1. Is that correct. If so, can I easily add another NVME on slot #2 and change Volume 1 from single to Raid 1?

Thanks

It's common for NAS operating systems, like ADM on your AS6704T, to be installed on the first volume created. Here's a breakdown of your questions:

ADM Software Location:
It's highly probable that your ADM operating system is indeed installed on Volume 1, which resides on your NVMe #1. This is the typical setup for many NAS devices.
Adding an NVMe and Converting to RAID 1:
Yes, you can generally add another NVMe drive to slot #2 and convert Volume 1 to RAID 1. However, it's crucial to proceed with caution.
Important Considerations:
Data Backup: Before making any changes to your storage configuration, perform a complete backup of all your data. A RAID conversion, while generally safe, carries a risk of data loss.
ADM Documentation: Consult the official ASUSTOR documentation for your AS6704T model. It will provide the specific steps and any potential limitations for converting a single volume to RAID 1.
RAID Conversion Process: The ADM interface should have a feature to expand or convert a volume. The process may take a considerable amount of time, depending on the size of your volume.
NVMe Compatibility: Ensure the NVMe drive you add to slot #2 is compatible with your NAS. It's best to use identical drives for optimal RAID performance.
ADM Version: Ensure that your ADM version is up to date. Updating the ADM software will ensure that you have the latest features and bug fixes.
General steps, that are likely to be found within the ADM software.
Install the new NVME into the second slot.
Navigate to the storage manager within the ADM software.
Select Volume 1.
Look for an "expand" or "change raid type" option.
Follow the on screen instructions, and select the newly installed NVME drive.
Wait for the raid conversion to complete.
Recommendation:
Prioritize backing up your data.
Refer to the ASUSTOR AS6704T user manual for detailed instructions.
If you are not comfortable with the process, consider contacting ASUSTOR support for assistance.
I hope this helps.
