NVMe M.2 SSD size for TerraMaster F6-424

#1
Just got a F6-424 and was wondering if there is a optimal NVMe M.2 SSD size to use for both slots?
I’m thinking I will use the SSDs for buffering.

Congrats on getting the TerraMaster F6-424! For optimal performance, using NVMe M.2 SSDs for buffering is a great choice.

Recommended SSD Size: A good range would be 500GB to 1TB for each slot. This capacity should provide enough space for caching frequently accessed data while ensuring fast read/write speeds.

Why This Size?

Performance: 500GB to 1TB SSDs strike a balance between speed and capacity, enhancing your system's overall responsiveness.
Cost-Effectiveness: SSDs in this range tend to be more affordable while still offering excellent performance.
Considerations:

Make sure to choose SSDs with high read/write speeds to maximize the buffering benefits.
If you're using both slots, it's best to use identical models to ensure compatibility and optimal performance.

When choosing NVMe for caching you need to look at reliability ratings such as DWPD/MTBF. Here are a few on the list

Caching means a lot of read and write operations, unlike regular storage situation.
You would need to look at models with 0.5DWPD and above

970 pro – 0.66DWPD

990pro – 0.68 DWPD

Synology SNV3400 – 0.68DWPD

Seagate FireCuda 510 – 0.7 DWPD
Seagate IronWolf 525 – 0.7 DWPD
Seagate Firecuda 530 – 0.7 DWPD
Seagate PS5 Game drive – 0.7 DWPD

Seagate FireCuda 520 -0.9 DWPD
WD Red SN700 – 1.0DWPD
