Second hand NAS

#1
Hello! I've been watching your videos a lot (big fan) and decided to write to you. So I want to do something called de-google which you most certainly know what is. I want to be able to self host Jellyfin, Radarr, Sonarr, NZB and torrent. It is not required to do any transcoding since I would use Radarr4K and Sonarr4k so directplay on my devices. I'd also like to self host either immich or photoprism.

I've been looking at building my own server as well as zimaboard/zimablade with their two drive capability but no option to upgrade properly. I literally just want something that is secure and take up as little space as possible.

I cannot decide which NAS or etc to get which would suite my needs, if I want to go for Synology or other equivalent brand or other options. Which one would you recommend?

Thank you very much and once again, big fan of your channel ?

Best regards,
Mike

Thanks for reaching out and for the kind words about my videos—I really appreciate it! Your goal of going "de-google" sounds exciting, and I’m glad to hear you’re diving into self-hosting.

For your needs with Jellyfin, Radarr, Sonarr, and either Immich or PhotoPrism, I’d recommend considering the Synology DS224+ or the DS723+. Both models are great for running Docker containers, which will be perfect for your setup. The DS224+ is more compact, while the DS723+ offers a bit more power and flexibility with its two drive bays, allowing for future expansion if you need it.

Since you're looking for something secure and space-efficient, either of these NAS options will fit the bill nicely, especially since they’re user-friendly and come with solid support for the applications you want to host. Plus, they both support direct play, so transcoding won’t be an issue for your 4K content.
