Hey NAS Compares. Really love your work and valuable advice you offer - Thank a million!
I'm running a dedicated Plex sever, alone, on a ds224+
I understand previous NAS iterations benefitted however, would you still recommend enabling Telnet and SSH services and adding VaapiDriver="i965" to preferences on my ds224+ ?
Has this bug been fixed for the ds224+ ?
Not sure if related yet as only sometimes a HECV file stutters whilst playing on a remote and local plex client.
Many thanks
Dave

Enabling Telnet/SSH:
Enabling Telnet or SSH on your Synology NAS can be useful for advanced configuration and troubleshooting, but it’s important to use these services carefully. They can expose your NAS to security risks if not properly managed. Here’s a quick overview:
SSH (Secure Shell) is preferred over Telnet because it encrypts the connection, providing better security.
If you’re comfortable with command-line operations and understand the risks, enabling SSH can help you troubleshoot and configure your Plex server more effectively.
Adding VaapiDriver="i965" to Preferences:
VaapiDriver="i965" is a setting used to enable hardware acceleration for video transcoding. This can help reduce CPU usage and improve playback performance for HEVC (H.265) files.
If you’re experiencing stuttering with HEVC files, enabling this setting might help, especially if your NAS supports hardware acceleration.
Bug and HEVC Playback:
Bug Fixes: The bug you’re referring to with the DS224+ might have been addressed in more recent updates. It’s a good idea to check for the latest firmware updates for your NAS and apply them, as they often include fixes and performance improvements.
Stuttering Issues: If you’re still experiencing stuttering, it could be related to several factors including network issues, Plex server settings, or the specifics of the HEVC file. Try:
Ensuring your Plex server is up-to-date.
Testing different network configurations.
Checking Plex’s transcoding settings and making sure hardware acceleration is enabled in Plex.
