Require NAS Recommendation

#1
I recently purchased 5 (one spare) refurbished drives off of Ebay: Seagate ST12000NM0127 12TB 256MB 7200RPM 3.5" SATA 6.0Gb/s Enterprise Hard Drive

Hopefully they aren't complete junk or unreliable.

I'm looking to set them up in a NAS at my office to store general files / spreadsheets / photos / graphics design files / videos and marketing assets.

I've got through your configurator and watched several of your videos but hoping you have one or two NAS suggestions that are easy to set up and just work well. I don't need bells and whistles, just file security.

Worse case, a single computer is connected directly. Better case is multiple computers are connected wirelessly (still with a wired option), and ideal case is both of those plus the ability to access the drive directly remotely (securely).

No top secret docs here, but proprietary info, patentable info, financials etc so private.

I searched "best NAS for RAID 10" but all results were the opposite, best RAID for your NAS.TY

Your setup sounds solid, and it's great that you've planned for redundancy and file security. Given your needs, here’s a straightforward guide to selecting and setting up a NAS that will efficiently handle your drives and provide secure access:

Recommended NAS Options
1. Synology DS923+

Features:

Easy Setup: Known for its user-friendly interface and straightforward setup.
RAID Options: Supports RAID 10 among other configurations.
Remote Access: Offers secure remote access through Synology’s QuickConnect or VPN setup.
Scalability: Can accommodate more drives if you need additional storage in the future.
Advantages:

Synology’s DiskStation Manager (DSM) software is intuitive and feature-rich, even for basic setups.
Reliable performance and extensive community support.
2. QNAP TS-464

Features:

Easy Setup: Also offers a user-friendly interface and simple configuration.
RAID Options: Supports RAID 10 and other RAID levels.
Remote Access: Secure remote access through QNAP’s myQNAPcloud service and VPN options.
Advantages:

Provides a good balance of performance and features, suitable for a range of users.
Affordable and reliable with robust support for RAID configurations.
Setup and Configuration
1. Hardware Setup

Install Drives: Place your Seagate ST12000NM0127 drives into the NAS units. Ensure they are securely connected.
Initial Setup: Follow the NAS’s quick start guide to initialize the drives and configure the system.
2. RAID Configuration

RAID 10: Configure your drives in RAID 10 for a balance of performance and redundancy. This setup mirrors data across pairs of drives while striping across multiple pairs, providing both high performance and redundancy.
3. Network and Access

Wired and Wireless Access: Connect the NAS to your network via Ethernet for reliable wired access. Ensure your NAS is set up for wireless access through your router or switch.
Remote Access: Configure remote access through the NAS’s web interface or app. Secure this with a strong password and, if possible, enable VPN access for added security.
