Which one suits me? DS423+ or DS923+?

#1
Hi. I'm a photographer. I'm looking to get a NAS for my photo archives. Mainly I'll be storing JPEG or RAW files inside. Will the embedded graphic chip affect photo viewing speed? Most reviews I've seen online are about videos, but what about photo encoding? I need to browse the photo quickly and not wait for them to decode one by one. Thanks.

Hi! As a photographer seeking a suitable NAS for your photo archives, you're concerned about how the embedded graphic chip will affect photo viewing speed, especially when dealing with JPEG or RAW files. It's important to note that the GPU chip in these NAS models, such as the DS423+ and DS923+, primarily aids in video conversion rather than photo encoding. For quick photo browsing without waiting for them to decode one by one, you may want to consider a NAS with a TPU (Tensor Processing Unit) unit, which is usually found in some QNAP NAS models. However, the DS423 (non-PLUS version) also boasts a similar feature, though QNAP has positioned it more prominently in their NAS offerings. Both the DS423+ and DS923+ are capable NAS devices, but for optimized photo handling, exploring NAS options with dedicated photo processing capabilities, like QNAP models, may better suit your needs.
