LUN vs File Share

Hi, I am looking for advice on using LUNs or File Shares. I want to be able to map to the files from a Windows Laptops as well as iPADs within my home network. Less than 5 people will access the data.
I thought LUNS would be best as they can be mapped drives but I wonder if this is overkill and File Shares would be better.
I can't see anything on the WWW which answers my query and summarizes the advantages / disadvantages of each so would appreciate you advice please.

LUN can not be shared. Only one device can see that data. SMB shares make more sense.
You can map them via "my computer" or mobile Files app.
