Doubting what nas would be best for me

#1
Hello,
First of all, thank you for all the advice! We are looking into getting a NAS at home with the main goal of having a file server, photo server to share our pictures with each other and family, Home assistant through docker and the occasional game server for just me and my friend when we get into a game. I am looking mostly towards the DS920+ & DS923+, combined with 2x SSD WD Red 500gb, a ram upgrade of 16gb added, and then either 2x Seagate ironwolf 4TB or the WD red 4TB. Without any deals at this point, prices for the entire setup vary from 895€ for the DS920+ with the seagate drives & 910 with the WD drives.
As for the DS923+ prices go from 973.8€ for Seagate drives and 990.5€ for the WD red drives.

The Synology DS920+ and DS923+ are both good NAS devices that would be well-suited for a home file server and photo server. Both models offer good performance and a range of features that would be useful for your purposes, including support for Docker and the ability to host game servers.

In terms of which model to choose, the DS923+ offers a few additional features that may be useful for you, such as the ability to use Nvme volume for storage, and support for 10 Gigabit Ethernet. However, the DS920+ may be a more cost-effective option if these features are not essential for your needs. DS920+ also can do video transcoding in 4K unlike the other NAS.

As for the hard drive options, both the Seagate Ironwolf and WD Red drives are good choices for use in a NAS. The Ironwolf drives are designed specifically for use in network-attached storage and offer good performance and reliability. The WD Red drives are also a good choice for use in a NAS and are available in a wider range of capacities.

Ultimately, the decision between the DS920+ and DS923+ and between the Seagate and WD hard drives will depend on your specific needs and budget. It may be worth considering prices and features from different retailers to find the best deal.
