Upgrading from 2 to 4 Bay NAS

Looking to upgrade to a 4 bay NAS, currently operating QNAP 251 2 bay (2016/17 model) with 2x 3TB drives and out of room.

Okay with QTS but concerned about security vulnerabilities of QNAP, 251 was a victim of ransomware attack. Fortunately able to recover and now more secure.

Evaluating DS920+/923+ and QNAP 464 and looking for something that will be good for awhile. Ideal case would be able to make use of the older drives (WD Red). New drives are 12TB Seagate Iron Wolf.

Synology default settings have prevented ransomware attacks. But Qnap can be as safe as Synology if configured properly.

As for using your older drives, you should be able to use them with either of these NAS devices as long as they are compatible with the system. It's a good idea to check the manufacturer's website for compatibility information and to ensure that the drives are still in good working condition before using them in your new NAS.
Normally compatibility is only restricted on Synology XS series models. With Qnap you can simply move drives to a new NAS without a need for reset.
