Might be stupid question, but watch the video on the disassembly of the synology ds920+ and knowticed the pcie x1 port for the m2 slots. I know I would have to cut the case, but could this port be used for 2.5gbe or maybe 10gbe Nic. Don’t use the usb if it would need to be disconnected. The drivers for the card would be part of the synology software would it not.

It's a great question!
Yes, it is technically possible to use the PCIe x1 slot (meant for M.2 SSDs) on the Synology DS920+ for a 2.5GbE or 10GbE NIC, but there are significant caveats:
Case Modification: You would need to cut the case, as you mentioned.
Driver Support: Synology DSM doesn't natively include drivers for these NICs. You'd need to find and install compatible drivers manually, which can be challenging and might not be supported officially by Synology.
So, while it's feasible, it's a complex and unofficial modification.
