drive image

#1
I am trying to by a NAS that can backup / image hard drives in my office. Incrementally would be great if possible. In case of hard drive failure or ransomware.
Synology seems to be able to do it with "active backup" but the descriptions of what it does are not clear. Would Asustor have something that would work? From your reviews, it is better hardware for the money. I am not looking for transcoding or plex. I used to have a Windows home server and it worked fine, for XP computers....
thank you

The DS423+ is a good choice for a backup and imaging NAS. It has the same specs as the DS920+ and provides enough processing power to handle your backup and imaging needs.

The Synology Active Backup Suite is a comprehensive backup solution that can back up data from various platforms and applications, including Windows, Linux, virtual machines, and Office 365. With Active Backup for Business, you can perform incremental backups, which means that only the changes made since the last backup are saved, reducing the amount of data transferred and storage space required.

Regarding Asustor, they offer similar backup solutions through their Backup Plan application, which supports Windows, macOS, and Linux systems. It also supports incremental backups and provides various backup strategies, including local, remote, and cloud backups. However, the Asustor hardware may not be as powerful as Synology's, which could affect the backup and imaging speed.

Overall, the DS423+ is a solid choice for your backup and imaging needs, and Synology's Active Backup Suite provides a reliable and comprehensive backup solution. However, if you are on a tight budget and do not require as much processing power, Asustor may also be a good option to consider.
