UNas Pro

#1
Great channel, I find it useful!
I am thinking of getting the UNas Pro. 1 thing I really want to to self host my own photo cloud and Plex server. Is it even possible to do that? If I want to use immich, I need to can I download and use docker? how about Plex?
There is almost nobody talking about this use case. I have the basis of a unify network infratstuctre at home now, I use UDR, a unify POE switch, a unify Mesh router etc. So I thought I would try to continue with more unify gear rather than get a Synology

Thanks for watching the channel! Yes, you can self-host your own photo cloud and Plex server on the UNas Pro, but there are a few things to consider.

Docker & Immich – If the UNas Pro runs a standard Linux-based OS (like Debian/Ubuntu or UnRAID/TrueNAS), you should be able to install Docker and run Immich without issues. Immich is a great choice for self-hosting photos, but check if the hardware supports GPU acceleration for faster processing.

Plex Server – You can definitely run Plex, but the performance depends on the CPU. If you plan to do a lot of hardware transcoding, make sure the UNas Pro has an Intel QuickSync-supported CPU or you’ll need a dedicated GPU. Otherwise, it works fine for direct play streaming.

UniFi Network Compatibility – Your UniFi UDR + POE Switch + Mesh Router setup is great for self-hosting. As long as you configure VLANs & firewall rules properly, you can make sure Plex and Immich are securely accessible remotely.

Since UNas Pro isn’t as mainstream as Synology, you won’t find as many tutorials, but if it supports Docker, your setup should work fine.
