Which Rack Mount NAS

#1
Hi, I have a 6RU home rack in my garage, I have a DS218+ which 12 TB of storage (I really don't need that much). It's taking a lot of space in the rack (over 2RU) and it's time for an upgrade.

So what do I use it for well, a bit of everything, but here's my must-haves

- Mac Timemachine backups for multiple computers (currently 2)
- Backups of my cloud storage (e.g Google Drive, OneDrive Etc)
- VM's / Docker
- Plex for old stuff I have (I don't use this very much and could run on my mac mini if needed)
- 10 Gb networking, macmini has 10 gb as well

Other things I have already, that perhaps one might say, just use that:
- M1 Macmini with 1TB storage
- BeeLink Mini PC with 1TB SSD drive and some NVME drives (I am running a VM hypervisor) and could just plug some external drives in an be done with it.

Though I really like the idea of having a sealed rack with a long warranty etc. Synology or QNAP or custom hardware with Truenas??? Been looking for 12 months Sad

Compact Size: With your limited rack space, the 2U rack form factor of the RS1221+ provides a balance between storage capacity and space efficiency.

Performance: The RS1221+ is equipped with a capable processor and sufficient memory to handle your workload effectively, including 10 Gb networking support for fast data transfers.

Reliability: Synology is known for its reliable and user-friendly NAS systems, backed by a solid warranty and ongoing support.

Price: Priced within your budget at $1703.01, the RS1221+ offers excellent value for its features and performance.

Synology RS1221RP+: Similar to the RS1221+, this model also has a NAS Gear Score of 4584 but is priced slightly lower at $1699.99. It provides excellent value for its performance and features.

QNAP TS-464U-RP: If you prefer a 1U rack 4-Bay NAS, this model offers a NAS Gear Score of 4036 and a relatively lower price of $1740.18. It's a compact option suitable for smaller rack spaces.
