Hi There. My wife and I are building a new house and I'm planning on included a NAS to be used almost exclusively for playing HD/4k media. I'm trying to find the NAS device that is best suited for this purpose; the QNAP TS-453Be is a possibility, or the HS-453DX, though I've read that the latter may have heat issues. I'm not averse to a Synology product, either, if it's superior. Any advice and guidance are much appreciated.

There are no heat issues with HS-453DX. It has a bad reputation because it uses metal chassis to cool itself down- unlike other NAS which use fans. This keeps it quieter than a regular NAS, but it is also warmer than usual. But this is not an issue. It is more powerful then other Qnaps and Synology NAS in this range. If you do prefer something fan-based then TS-453Be is a good choice. And only something like TVS-472XT would compete.I hope this helps.
