Gen3 NVME sufficient for AS5402T

#1
Hi--
I bought the AS5402T (Nimbustor) this summer as my first NAS and am ready to add my first NVME SSD in addition to the 2 SATA HDDs in the bays.
Is my logic correct that since the PCIe lanes are Gen3, I will get the full speed available by purchasing Gen3 SSD, i.e. I would get no benefit by buying Gen4?
Amazon has the Crucial P3 4TB PCIe Gen3 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD available for $159 on Cyber Monday. There's no need for me to buy, say, Samsung 990 or 980, correct?

Hey there! Great choice with the AS5402T, and diving into NVMe territory is a smart move. Your logic is spot on – since the AS5402T utilizes PCIe Gen3 lanes, going for a Gen3 SSD makes perfect sense. You won't experience any speed benefits by opting for a Gen4 SSD, so that Crucial P3 4TB PCIe Gen3 NVMe M.2 SSD you spotted on Cyber Monday sounds like a fantastic deal at $159. It's a solid choice that complements your NAS setup well. Enjoy the upgraded storage performance! Just dont use them for cache.
