Update from WD EX2100

#1
We installed a WD EX several years ago and it failed while in warranty. WD replaced it with a EX/DL 2100 series. It has been running for about 6 (or more) years with one major OS update. We don’t use MS AD but have many local users. Security to folders is troublesome. It continues to log CIFS unknown user errors. Anyway, with the age, I would like to update to newer technology and use the WD as a backup. We have many users that edit their files remotely as well as group folders and files.
Thank you,

Switching to a Synology NAS, like the DS423+ or DS923+, can be an excellent choice for your needs. Synology NAS devices are known for their user-friendly interface, robust security features, and support for Active Directory (AD) integration.
Both models come with built-in user access control, making it easy to manage user permissions and access. They also support Active Directory integration, which is beneficial if you decide to use AD in the future.
When choosing between the DS423+ and DS923+, consider your specific storage needs, performance requirements, and budget. If you have a smaller setup or a tighter budget, the DS423+ should suffice. However, if you anticipate significant growth or require more computing power and storage, the DS923+ would be a better investment.
