What is the right NAS for my use case?

#1
Hi All,

First of all I'd like to thank everyone for making this community available! Great that there are people who can help an amateur like me out with everything related to NAS.

I am considering to buy a NAS, I am inclined to Synology due to the software. However, I'm open for other brands. The two use cases I have (for now) are:
  • Run a plex mediaserver and stream movies in 4K (HDR) to my TV. (and stream to iPad)
  • Create periodically backups of my Proxmox server..
  • Create periodically backups of my Google Drive, iCloud Photos and (not a must) Macbook.

I'm curious about what NAS would fit me well but also what would be a good setup for my use case!

Thanks a lot.

There is no automated option to run backups from your Icloud or Proxmox. But you can do a backup manually by downloading files and copying them to a NAS.
You can go for plus series models such as DS423+ that support Active backup for business. This tool is as close you can get to automation. Also, a transcoding engine will be handy to have.
