Advice on choosing the right NAS

#1
Hi - I am trying to set up a storage server for home use with approx. 12 users in the family with predominant usage for media including photos, videos, documents and other back up. I am confused whether or not to be content with ds220+ or future proof our storage server with ds1522+. If you were to suggest the 5 bay system please also help me with choosing the right storage capacity.

We might have upwards of 3 TB data already with growing needs since I am a street photographer & would need a good back up, accessible solution.

If you want to access videos remotely then ds1522+ is not a very good choice since it does not support video transcoding. DS220+/ ds420+ or even better ds720+ / ds920+ (allow more simultaneous connections) will outperform it.
Qnap new 64 series models have this extra bay you are seeking for. But you will need to be more careful to configure safe remote access.

I hope this helps.
