Painpoints when selecting an appropriate NAS and Drives

#1
Hi!

Love your helpful videos! Need advice on NAS setup for Plex and media storage with 4x20TB Ironwolf Pro HDDs (ST20000NT001). Considering Synology DS923+ or QNAP TS-464-8G.

Concerns:
1. Transcoding: Unsure if DS923+ is suitable despite benchmark testing.
2. RAID 1 - SHR1 vs. SHR2: Determine the better choice.
3. 10 Gbit/s: I don't believe currently needed for my use case.
4. Plex Lifetime Pass for hardware transcoding: Will purchase.
5. HDD compatibility: Conflicting info on 18 & 20TB compatibility with DS923+.
6. Noise: I have a suitable location for the NAS so noise is not an issue.
7. RAM: Minimum 8GB; plan to upgrade is there any product you specifically recommend depending ont he model I select

Notes:
- Usage: Youtube footage will be storage only. I work off my PC's project drive to edit.

Hey there! Thanks for reaching out and we're thrilled to hear you enjoy our videos! Now, diving into your NAS dilemma – for your needs, the DS923+ might fall short on hardware transcoding due to the absence of a dedicated chip. While it excels in local video streaming, if remote streaming is a key factor, you might want to lean towards the DS423+ or the QNAP TS-464 with a Celeron processor for an optimal Plex experience. As for RAID choices, SHR1 or SHR2, it boils down to your preference for redundancy – SHR2 provides more protection but uses more storage. Considering your storage and backup requirements, this might sway your decision. Regarding 10 Gbit/s, your instincts are on point; it might be overkill for your current usage.
